Just curious to see how many Universal Monster Army members and all around Monster and Classic Horror lovers are under the age of 40 years old.
When horror movies or film overall comes up in conversation most people are suprised that I mention stuff like Frankenstein and Phantom Of The Opera. I understand this stuff is just before the time of people in my age bracket.
For the ones that know..we're better off. ;)
So how many of you here are under 40?
I'm under 40. Just a young pup at 25 yrs old. ;D

38 and know the feeling. Most of my freinds and people I meet younger than me have no idea what im talking about when I start talking monstersm. Not really anyone older either thoigh. But then again I think I live in a black hole of a town. Smack dab in the middle of conservative usa. I pretty much have trouble finding anyone who shares the same interests as me. That's why I love the UMA. I finally found a place that understands me.

Frank73, I hear you. I'm in the DC area, but classics to most people still mean 70's/80's.

Thanks man...Ive been so damn busy, I really didn't have too much time to hang out, now though things are smoothing out. You were actually the 1st one I thought of when starting this thread.
For the other guys posting here, cool to see some how, some way this special thing made it's way to us!
So now I gotta ask...for us youngins that are under 40...how were you introduced to classic horror?
Good to see ya back BL!
I'm 39! Whew....good thing you didn't put off posting this until next year since I will no longer be in the "Monsterkids under 40" club!! My love of monsters came from my mom, who although not a huge fan did love her classics! I used to stay up late nights with her and watch monster flicks back when I was a kindergartner and even though today is Father's Day, I just want to say, "Thanks mom for making me a lifelong monster lover!!".
I'm 17 and yea I know it's strange but this stuff is my life

Good story. For me, I have an uncle thats about 10 yrs older than me and I practically lived at my grandmothers house as a kid.
Finding Aurora parts, King Kong on during Thanksgiving...and all his cool books (which I now own). I guess it was kinda handed down to me.
Now for the real reason of this thread....(cue bone chilling music.) All us younger than 40 UMA'ers are planning something diabolical for you elder members. You're very knowledgable in classic horror....

im 17, been loving this stuff since i was a kid.
Remember, in the UMA bylaws, and General, you may need to back this up, everyone under 40 cannot post after 9 PM because of your curfew. 8) Those of us over 40 are usually in bed anyways so the rule need not apply.

My monster room says that I'm a kid (or immature at the very least!). I'll be 46 next month, but to my daughter's friends, I am the cool dad. I'm silly, eccentric, and irreverent. Kids, teenagers especially, know when adults are talking down to them. I maintain my authority, but I can still connect with the kids. That's why I can relate to the under 40 members here, I know the lingo. GROOVY! RIGHT ON! ...OK, maybe I'm feeling my age a little...
Rob
By the way, we should all watch Matlock, but just the episodes with Dan Roebuck in them.

No wisenheimer comments from the peanut gallery! You're not too old for me to take my belt to!
I'm 31!
I got into monster movies when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I remember Dracula coming on television at 1am. My father always encouraged me to watch these movies when I was young because he knew I like scary movies and that these classics were a perfect starting point for a youngen. So, being young, I could stay up that late, so I remember going to bed early and him waking me up just before the movie started. I layed on the living room floor with a bowl of popcorn provided by my mother, and all 3 of us enjoyed the classic horror. This memory has stayed with me since then and I believe is the point I fell in love with monster movies and everything related.
Wow I forgot all about this thread...and I'm still not 40!
Woooooooo! lol
I'm 34 going on 35 in July.
I'm 30 going on 14.
Can anyone share how they got to like classic monster movies? Obviously if we're under 40 we weren't around for the classics, but somehow we found them (or they found us), and we started our lives as monster kids.
I have very found memories of my dad sitting me down in front of the television with a beta max copy of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. I was fascinated with the battle scenes between The Wolfman and Dracula; how they would crash through the windows and at the same time was kept laughing by the antics of Abbott running from Frankenstein's monster.
We also had some Beistle die cut figures of the Wolfman, Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster that my family displayed every Halloween. I would set up a haunted house of sorts for all the neighborhood kids and we would run around the basement trying to scare each other.
I owe all my geeky traits to my father. THANKS DAD!

I think most people know I joined this group because of my son Matt. He was 6 years old and became OBSESSED with the Universal Monsters. Nobody in my family ever watched them. So he introduced all of us to these wonderful characters.
Oh I'm 36 so I guess i still qualify! Finally a place I feel young! woohoo!
i always say im 12and a half.. lol
but for realz.. im in my " mid thirties " ;)
(i know i know. i look younger. thank you thank you .. :P )
im into monsters from my dad.. he worked at universal studios as a special effects/makeup artist when I was growing up. so I got to see him in action and he'd take me to work w/him sometimes on the backlot.
he would take me to the drive in movies alot too when my mom was at work (graveyard ), much to her dismay.
i remember him taking me to see Jaws and Planet of the Apes and/or other movies he was involved with,,, he'd cover my eyes every now & then. lol. anddd he would say " dont tell your mom " .. LOL
Also, he would do sidejobs ( esp. at halloween of course ) outta his studio garage.. he would always be sculpting stuff, pouring latex , molds, prosthetics, just the whole process.. I was absolutely fascinated and have just been really into it my whole life. . he would often come in the house from bein outside in his studio, looking for me to come "help him" , which usually entailed him doing some crazy makeup job on me, making me look a gorilla or an alien or lord knows what.. lol.. i remember him making a mold of my face,. boy is that uncomfortable!!
he also would build models, which is where and how I learned how to do that.
My other influence was my grandma, who would take me home w/her on sundays ( after church of all things.. lol ) and would
corrupt me with the Munsters, Universal Monster movies , Abott & Costello, and all other kinds of movies.. It was the best day of the week :)

I still have a few years left in me before I hit the big 4-0 so i made it into this group. :)
I was into monster at a very young age by watching the classic on what was the The Son of Svengoolie (now he just goes by Svengoolie) and a whole lot of Godzilla flicks. Once I got into jr high i was introduced to more modern horror and slasher movies. I'll always love the classics and take a rubber suit over CGI any day.

I was born in '73, but sometimes I wonder if I was born in the wrong era because I LOVE THIS STUFF!
My parents didn't allow me to watch anything monster or horror related when I was growing up, but I was drawn to it anyway (or maybe because of their restrictions!). I sought out the monsters first in the library, and the children's section had almost every volume of the Crestwood House Monster Series. If I checked out these books FROM THE LIBRARY, it MUST be okay for kids, right? At least, that's what I was banking on when it came to my parents. Ultimately, they allowed me to explore the classics, and I've been hooked ever since.
I've explored and expanded my fandom through my writing, Halloween make-ups, podcasts, etc. . . . Sometimes the amount of work I put into celebrating my fandom makes me FEEL older than 40, but I'm not quite there yet . . . ! :)

It's all in how you look at it, I can tell my body isn't what it used to be when I was in my early 30's but I still get out there and run around with the kids and I see parents younger than me that are always wondering how I do it! My mom is in her early 70's, had both knees operated on and is as active as ever and that is the way I see myself being at that age....well hopefully without the knee surgery! And as with your 20's it all goes by in a blink of an eye....even more so once you have kids and they are growing up right along with you growing old! I may be 40 tomorrow but it is very much just a number and I won't let that slow me down one bit, now the aches and pains, those may slow me down .................some what! ;)

Today I feel 25...what a great day.....been drinking a new vitamin and mineral drink thats been giving me tons of energy. Even the graveyard shift isn't tiring anymore. Look out youngins I feel great. ....................now, back to sleep.
I was born 2/20/80 and have loved monsters since birth. A large part of that is my dad is a kid of the big monster boom. He built all the old monsters kits when he was a kid. Everything from Frankenstein to Rat Fink. He also collected comics as well. Although by the time i came along all his monster stuff was gone the monster spirit lived on. Today I'm 32 and plan on living in a Monsters Paradise for the rest of my life. lol! :D
HOT DAM!! I'm under 40 and feel good today!!!
LOL
A significant part of me got stuck at age 12, hence my status her at the UMA. Biologically, I'm five times that. Oh, well. sfsrefs
To be honest, I'm 20 years old. I did watch mummy at age 19, however watched only first half of it, also watched parts of Frankstein when I was younger less then 12 years old. I did watch some more B/W horror such as 1962's carnival of souls and others too.
I'm more into 70's and 80's horror, also some 60's and 90's horror as well. Stuff like Gremlins, The Thing, Aliens, Dog Soldiers, American Werewolf in London, Jaws, still I have a long list horror movies that I really liked a lot.
I think we each have our own era's that we like better. For me, I just can't decide. I think every decade has its hits and misses and own sub-section of the genre ie. comedy-horror, sci-fi-horror, occult, satanic, ghosts, etc, etc.
I am 18 years old and just graduated High School on May 10th. I graduated with non-other than fellow UMA member - slayergriffith, whom is also one of my best friends. I'm not like any other 18-year old wondering around. My tastes in movies, music, tv shows, etc. is far different from any other person of my age. My favorite years for movies are from the 1930s to around the early 1990s. I like some silent films here and there, also. My general taste in music is exceptionally different as well. My favorite type of music is '70s rock/classic rock, heavy metal (that goes also with thrash and death metal), 1960s surf/psychadelic/rock/folk, even 1930s-1940s Jazz. I dislike modern things as well (EX - tv shows, cars, etc) I was born in the wrong era. The only stuff I usually watch on tv is old tv shows/movies. Two of my favorite tv shows is Happy Days and Three's Company. I like shows like good times, the jeffersons, all in the family, the munsters, gilligan's island, MASH, chips, starsky and hutch, etc. the classic stuff. I'm probably one of the last-living people of my age that enjoys the good ol' stuff that some of the UMA'ers that are older love and I can get along better with you guys and speak and discuss our favorite stuff which is the same exact things. Universal monster movies, 50s science fiction, low-budget films, old horror films, black and white films, gory slashers, monster movies, etc. I consider you guys my brothers and sisters in the sense of our same interests! so as a fellow "ghoul" I bid-everyone a pleasant day and have a good one, because your guys interests, posts, and opinions make my days interesting and entertaining as well

Congrats on the graduation! Yea, I think we all wish more young persons were like you. because in a few decades their might not be. I was like this sort of in high school too. I played sports and hung out with a lot of people, but most of the time I enjoyed reading Poe and Lovecraft, watching old tv shows and movies, and reading comics. Sometimes, friends, family, or coworkers tell me I've been born in the wrong era, but I usually respond that I was born long ago I've just been reincarnated and kept the things I loved from my previous life. That always gets a laugh out of them.....but then it also gets them to think, he he.
I have been trying to find teenagers like Steve in from my middle school to high school years that would match my tastes. But I would always failed to find one, but I did find quite very few who likes 80's and 90's era but they're not really into them like I do. I never found anybody who are into pre 80's.
I do have some people who think I'm stuck in 80's or 90's, and I always believed that I'm born in a wrong era once in a while. happily some of my new friends in my college are into 80's and 90's stuff, even some pre 80's as well. One friend is about almost same age as I'm and other actually is ten years older than I.
I hate most of new stuff that came out today, however there are only few stuff that actually I liked, but most of others are just seem crap to me.
Some people told me that I should move forward and start liking more new stuff, irony I choose to move backwards in time and become more interested in many things from 1930's to 1970's such as books, movies, comics, art, pulps, toys, posters and more. That's why I end up as a member on this thread, lol listening to great people with great interests!
I found new horror to be silly and not scary, I like older ones better like lovecraft stuff, and old horror movies that know how to be scary in first place.
Sly...I agree about the new horror movies. Most have disappointed me on many levels. With all the stories out there you'd think Hollywood would make an original movie, but no. What do they do? Make horrible remakes of classics or remakes of Japanese classics. Great job Hollywood, you suck again! Then the few original movies they do make just plainly suck. It's like they say: Hey lets make a cheap movie, over-market it, sucker people into paying money to watch it, then do it again.
The other day at a wedding, I asked this young girl catering if she ever seen From Dusk Til Dawn. I asked this because their was a weird vibe at the wedding like everyone was going to turn into vampires, lol. So any way, she said "no what's that?". So I explained the movie and she was clueless. This girl had to of been 17-20 years old. Then I asked, have you seen any vampire movies? And her response was........."Yea, I love Twilight!" I just turned around and walked away with a sad tear in my eye. Is this what young people now adays consider a vampire movie? The end times are near my friends.
True, Hollywood are not good as it used to be. As an american, I feel quite embarrassed to admitted that almost all big budget remakes that are from Hollywood in USA sucks big time and even worse, some are big time flops. Hollywood are now more known to us that they just grab anything to cash it in that they think we'll pay to watch like bunch of zombies flocking to theaters. I hate it that there are no new werewolf films from hollywood, yes I'm aware of that wolf-man remake but all I want are original big budget werewolf films that is something really cool and still actually good.
It is most likely that they don't think that werewolf films can make good money, they actually thought that first Pirate of the Caribbean movie was going to be an big time flop (they ALMOST shut it down and call it a day) because pirate movies before it are just bunch of flops and they're complete blown away by unexpected giant box-office returns from Pirate of the Caribbean movie. It was unexpected successful movie, (same thing with 1980's Fright Night) and they left it for dead on opening! Now they start treating it as holy grail and start making sequels to it, second and third are not very serious movies like first are. First movie was meant to be stand alone masterpiece movie and last three movies are more focused on things that everybody like and sadly plots are just messed up! Again, last three PoC movies are more like popcorn movies that doesn't need to be taken seriously, if taken seriously than it's meh because it couldn't live up to first PoC's stranded.
I could go on and talk more on why last three PoC are not great movies. 4th PoC movie actually have plot holes that still haunt me to this day! Last three PoC are sad proof on hollywood are doing right now, cashing in what people like...
Twilight is one of great examples that shows dark side of hollywood! Twilight sucks, I actually watched it once and I labeled it as a chick kitsch film. My sister was the one that made my family watch it, I found it quite more of an kitsch movie that I'm not willing to watch again for years and would rather not talk about it! It also sucks that my oldest friend that is still my friend actually love it, but thankfully he's more into original halloween movie right now and forgot twilight.
I hadn't watch "From Dusk Til Dawn" yet and I'm planning on watching it someday because I bought dvd version from yard sale about one month ago, is it good? I really hadn't watch vampire movies that much because they're hard to find and I wasn't really interested watching them in first place. I'm more of a werewolf guy, but I did bought two or so vampire movies that are 1931's Dracula and 1993's Dracula. For some reason that pre 1990 old horror movies are actually real pain in the back to find in wild such as flea market and yard sales! I FINALLY found Rosemary's Baby for 50 cents, I know it's a not vampire movie LOL! I almost got Lost Boys but I'm only interested in few vampire movies that I want to watch and Lost Boys are not one of them.
Yeah it's sad that they don't know true meaning of horror, shame.

I guess he has nothing to say anyway...
LOL, sorry Sly, been kinda slacking on here.
Anyway, speaking of Twilight. My girl show me a picture of Bela Lugosi as Dracula and the caption had something to do with vampires sparkling. So I asked her what it was and she told me it had to do with the vampires in Twilight sparkling when they were in sunlight. I immediatley became irate as she started laughing. I kept telling her that she's lying and began using some very derogative terms toward homosexuals to decribe the scene. Then she showed me a youtube clip of it and I about lost it. Now I truely believe the male character is being attacked by this metrosexual trend. This male vampire, instead of melting, began to (deep breath).......sparkle.
Maybe I'm old school, but men should act like men and women like women. I would hate to see a female with a wad of chew in her mouth and tobacco stains on her shirt, sit in a chair and scratch her beer gut as she pounds a bottle of whickey. AT NO TIME SHOULD A MALE SPARKLE!!!!
ok
deeeeeep breath.....blood pressure going up
sorry about the rant.....I'm just so fed up, and these are just my humble opinions. maybe i'm wrong.

this is hilarious to me.. because I always sparkle. between my lotion and everythng else, im totally glittery & youre right. it gets on people who are near me.. hahahaa. but does that mean im a stripper? i dont recall necessarily giving lap dances while spreading my sparkle around.   im seriously lol'ing . this is really funny & has happened recently in fact. ( gotten glittery sparkle on a guy, who said : you got me all sparkly ) lmao

LOL! I was gonna add or from a girl touching you but it took away from the laugh factor. But ya those sparkles get every where. I think last year maybe new years I was hanging with a young lady and really wasn't paying attention to her sparkles well later one that night after spending much time with her dancing and what not I went to talk to a buddy in a more lite are of the club and the first words out of his mouth were " Dude why are you sparkling?" It actually took me a minute but then it clicked she had sparkles on. Good times. ;D
When I watch a vampire sparkle in sunlight for very first time during first and only viewing of Twilight, I laugh hard like crazy! It was hilarious in a bad way to me! some of my classmates hate me because I laugh whatever they said "Twilight", They never give me a chance to explain why I found it so funny. I also call it a cheesy drama movie which it makes them even more angrier. I was never into vampires in first place, and Twilight was the start of my hatred for vampires however reading intro back of the Bram Stroker's Dracula book explaining that it's more about immortal stuff and how they paid price of being as one have finally put an end to my hatred for vampire now. Which I finally now respect older versions of vampires such as Dracula because I found them to be so interesting now.
I hope I will have enough time to Bram Stroker's Dracula since it's been sitting on my shelf for a year now.

Yeah that's true, but I won't mind having women that are acting like bunch of tomboys. My female friend is a tomboy and she loves video games, lol! I found girly men to be weird as heck, yuck. My high school did have a male that is dress up in girl's clothes, it was stupid sight, just yuck. Sadly it's their choice, not mine. There is other one in my art college, I hate seeing them that way!
In my high school years, no one give a damn about comic books! They would rather talk about Manga instead which it makes me want to kill them for that! To make matters worse, high school library has only small number of non-super heroes graphic novels and rest of others are super heroes! I was NEVER into super heroes in first place! They have more manga stuff that which it upset me!
I dislikes super heroes... and dislikes manga too...
I just turned 20, so yeah, definitely a young gun here. The reason I got into it is because my dad watched a lot of older movies so that is what I grew up with. Naturally when I became interested in horror, I watched more of the classics than anything else. Now, I'll watch anything, but I love classic Universal the most of any horror. I'm a Media Studies & Theatre double major and professional actor, so I'm constantly studying all types of film.
Speaking of UMA'ers under 40. Last week at Monster Bash, the crowd seemed to hold the majority of over 40 years of age. There were some younger monster-goers and some really young monster-goers, but only a handful. It got me thinking of where this genre will be in 20, 30, or more years. I think the generation of classic movie lovers is being replaced by reality tv and CGI effects. I mean, do kids even watch classic movies anymore or could they even enjoy them? They are so brainwashed by special effects and remakes that I don't think they could appeciate the story of a good movie. Everyone now is so fast paced, and needs things done fast, and easy, and with the most expensive technology that is new for the week. Do you really think the average 16 year old could appeciate a classic Universal Monster movie, or silent movie? Do you think that their brains will allow them to slow down and enjoy a story instead of special effects?
I think with the way most people are programed now it would be hard for them to enjoy a classic or something that is simple and slow instead of complicated and fast. In 20-30 years I think this genre of classic movie lovers will really take a hit. You'll still have your hardcore fans but the numbers will be small. I think it's up to us, not just the younger movie lovers, but the older movie lovers to pass on this torch. Hopefully we can ignite the flame inside these people and open up a whole new world for them.

Absolutely. That is the only way these movies and characters will continue.
The truly frightening thing is the number of kids who aren't even really aware of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers. Those characters have replaced the Universal Monsters in the Halloween aisles, yet they are nearly out of the consciousness of young people. They are now considered "classic monsters," and their original films "almost unwatchable." **shudders**
So I am setting out to help the kids who can be saved. :)
lol! i forgot all about the sparkle post up above. geez.lol! ::)

That makes me want to vomit. Still, with the internet, there is hope that classic horror can stay in the consciousness of young people.
There's some hope there, but Universal really needs to tap into the market. Maybe the online Universal Monster game will do that. But I don't know what the Internet can do about the Black and White situation. Lots of people (even adults) refuse to watch anything that is in black and white. Don't ask me why... But I have heard it many times. And as much as it pains me to say... Colorize the monsters if it will save them. I won't watch them in color (Okay, maybe once), but there are a lot of people who won't watch them in their present state. :'(

That's especially sad considering that studies prove horror movies to be more effective when in black and white.

that's what happened to the genre! ;D I had been wondering for years why they just weren't as good as they used to be. Now I know. ;)
But that is seriously cool. Which study was this? I'd love to read more.

I can't remember who conducted it off the top of my head, but I've heard it fifty times in my various film classes :P
It also found that people enjoyed comedies more when in color. I'm a fan of the Marx Brothers, A&C, but eh, I guess I get why.
Personally i like all forms of Horror. I maybe the only person i know personally who will be watching a silent film then a classic universal and move on to slasher and some of the more modern stuff. I just love it all.

Miss. Dead 13 is 112 years old, I think she is a vampire... being chased down by somebody, a vampire killer. Maybe that's why Miss. dead 13 is moving around...
She must using some kind of secret sunblock that keeps her from melting from the sun...
I wonder... hmm...
Just remember, age is nothing but a number so that we can try and define how long we've lived on this earth. I've seen, as I'm sure you all have, 30 yo who look and act like 60 yo and 50 yo who can run circles around 20 yo. I'm 31, a good friend of mine that I work out with is 56. This guy can put me and just about everyone else I know to shame. He has a positive personality, eats healthy, and completes 2-3 triathlons a year and always, always ranks in the top 5 for his age and the top 10-15 overall. Truely an insperation that defies a number. Then you see some 20 yo who look like they're ready for the heap. So, to me this number means nothing, the qualities of a person are what really matter.

i lied when i was young, wanting to be older.. .than i got older and started lying that i was younger..

same goes for the color of my hair. its black and pink. thats all i know. its been that way for 112 years.
screw the sunblock. i cant go in the sun at all, or i start to sizzle. I dont do sun. period. which is why i look so young :)
I dont even crack the coffin till the sun goes down, unless absolutely necessary,{ and those days end up being very long horrible days :( }
vampire. no.
gypsy perhaps !! hence the moving around , to and fro, here and there.
monsterkid. most definitely.
old people running circles around people half their age... absolutely.
people never believe im in my 30s. i get carded every single day of my life.
i chalk it up to never having smoked a cig. in my life,
avoiding the sun at all costs ( parasols were made for a reason )
lots of fun, toys, monsters, running around like a kid in every toy section of whatever store im at,
and doing cartwheels in the grass is always fun. i still do it anytime the moment presents itself !
im old enough to know better, but young enough to do it anyways & enjoy every second of it!!
if youre not having fun, you are not doing it right !!!!

lol! Very true.
I recently turned 29 and I have been a Universal Monsters fan since I was very young.
The vampires in Twilight aren't really vampires at all. They're sparkling fairies that masquerade as vampires in order to make themselves look cooler.
I'm 35. I've loved monsters, robots, aliens and creatures since I was a kid. I haven't really seen many of the Universal horror films since they don't seem to air them all that often, but I loved the few I have seen. Despite growing up in the era of the slasher flick I much prefer things like Creature From The Black Lagoon over Freddy, Jason and Michael. I do watch and enjoy slasher flicks but I'm not really what you'd call a fan of them. I'd buy Universal monsters merchandise ( Especially the Creech, The Wolf Man and Frankenstein ) but I can't see myself buying stuff with Freddy or Jason. They aren't nearly as likeable as the Universal crew.
I didn't start out as a horror fan. I didn't see my first horror flick until I was in my late teens ( Pumpkinhead if you're curious ). The movie that started my love of aliens and monsters wasn't horror at all. It was ET. Before that I didn't think much of aliens, monsters, robots or anything like that. Seeing ET when I was six changed something in me. I fell in love with fantasy creatures then which evolved into a love for special effects ( animatronics, puppetry and costuming mostly. I have no interest in CGI though I realize it's a neccessary evil in some cases ) and monster toys. My Aunt Dodie is also partially to blame. She's the one who showed me the movie Gremlins ( another big influence ) and gifted me with a plush My Pet Monster on the Christmas of 86. Still my favorite toy of all time. I dragged that thing everywhere. He wasn't just a toy, he was a friend. Most of my best childhood memories revolve around that toyline.
I despise horror fans who look down on the Universal monsters just as I despise gamers who look down on the atari 2600. I firmly believe that if you're a fan of anything you need to respect what came before. You have to respect the history of your fandom. Just because the Universal movies didn't have state of the art special effects doesn't mean they aren't good movies in their own right. Hell in some ways they're better than a lot of modern horror because they didn't have things like fancy CGI effects to hide behind. They had to rely more on story and plot.
I just turned 29. When I was a kid, I got really big into hard rock and heavy metal, and the next natural progression was horror movies. I never grow up watching the old Unverisal Monster films. Instead, my "universal monsters movies" were films like Re-Animator, Dawn of the Dead, Zombies, etc...After I watched all of the classic 70s and 80s splatter flicks, I started to watch the more extreme torture porn type movies and got bored with those really quick. It was only recently that I decided to go back to the roots and start watching the original horror films, and that's how I became a fan of the Universal Monster films. It's kind of the same with music; kids grow up listening to bands like Metallica and Slayer and eventually they go back to the roots and discover bands like Sabbath, Zeppelin, the Stones, etc...
