Gory, that could be the other version paint master that my buddy owns. There was one of each style (A&B)
I'll post some info tonight regarding as to why the reissue Hyde was so red.

Here is mine next to the photo- you can see differences in the sculpts

.

Yes, from that angle I can see the differences. Both nice. Looking forward to hearing about the red Hyde. Thanks for sharing.

My Wolfman arrived today! As well as an amazing custom Klaus Kinski Nosfaratu by the Tharps.

Both amazing!! Wolfman deserves his own pedestal like Grandpa.

Oh man! Rudy, that Wolfman is incredible. The museum is looking top notch buddy. I need to sneak out your pad again soon. Your collection has grown a ton over the Summer months.

Very interesting. I always assumed that mask molds were always plaster.

Metal mold = vinyl mask
Plaster mold = latex rubber mask

OK--Its been several days: out with the secret! Why was my Calendar mask Hyde "tomato paste red"?

Kidagain

Maybe old Hyde was sprayed by a skunk and he needed to be dunked in tomato juice.

Haha, sorry!! I've been so busy with a couple of projects that I've neglected the forum. This is straight from a friend (Evil Wilhelm) who worked on the reissue project at the studio:

"I had my Hyde painted to look like the calendar back in 1987. When we did the re-issues Don said "paint it like Evil's" and that is what they got. At the time, I had the only known copy of the Calendar Hyde. By allowing it to be scanned for the re-issues, it was the first time that a wearable Hyde would have ever been made. Then the cast them in that thick substance which rendered them unwearable and painted them ... red"

Phibes, are you familiar with this image?

I don't know why they didn't paint the Phantom reissue this color:

Yeah, I know the image. But its more of a "tickled pink" than "LaRosa's Pizza Sauce" red, lol.

I was really hoping that when the big reveal on Red Mr. Hyde happened that I would think "that makes perfect sense, now I see why they chose red". But nope, it's exactly what I thought it was, a poor color choice. That color is appropriate for a devil mask, but not Mr. Hyde. Good ol' re-issue Mr. Hyde can be had for an average of about $50 online these days and I suspect that is part of the reason. I even saw one recently in new condition on eBay with a BIN price of $40. I'd have it re-painted if I ever picked one up. Thanks for the info CG!
