Two amazing and rare different paint variations on the 70's Hyde B by The Tharps. These are quickly becoming some of my favorite pieces in my collection. Both foamed by Dante of course.
72' catalog look on the left, and the film character on the right.

Both great masks! The Mr. Hyde on the right is breath taking! So realistic. Can you tell me why the Calendar re-issues of these were painted red? I always thought that was such an odd color choice.

The 80's Shocks are a lot different then the older original. That old illustration is awesome, I bet there were a lot of disgruntled kids out there.

I just joined the forum yesterday. This had to be my first post to say again how beautiful this collection is. Great masks. Great display set up. Amazing work!

Lol, at first I didn't see someone above named Fanboy. I was like, um, ok thank you.

And Fanboy, thanks for the good words, it's appreciated.

That's funny. Come to think of it, I don't think I ever welcomed you on board when you first posted. I have to blame it on your incredible collection. I can't click on here without staring at your photos endlessly. Every mask is of legendary status, but one piece really fascinates me. It's the patriarch of the original "Texas Chainsaw" family. That thing is wicked great! I'm so glad you decided to share with all of us.

Holy Geez, those 2 Hyde masks are killing me. So I guess the tomato red Hyde has slipped down the list of must haves being replaced by these 2. CG your killing me with your extraordinary collection.

I never understood the color choice on the red Mr. Hyde. Is he really really mad? Or maybe you wear him while naked so you look embarrassed?

Thank you! That piece is amazing. It is a 1 of 1.  It was made by an incredible up and coming young artist named Connor Dellis. He was only sixteen years old when he created that thing! It was made to display at Maskfest. Connor makes THE best TCM masks hands down. The kid knocks em out of the park. You can see another one of his creations in my collection, the Pretty Lady Leatherface mask that is near Grandpa.
Actually I'll have to post a shot of the new leatherface mask.

They look great CG! I had one of those Topstone Skulls when I was a kid, a classic! Funny how the Topstone Shock Monster looks nothing like the classic illustration used to advertise them. Kids were in for a shock if they mail ordered one (pun intended).  ;D

I love the look of 80s Topstone masks. They are just so fun and toylike. And the 80s Shock is wonderful. But as Rudy pointed out, the 80s Shock is not what kids received when they ordered a Shock Monster from Captain Company in the 50s/60s/70s. They would have received an original Keith Ward-sculpted Shock, which did look like the illustration.

Here's a 50s example. Except for the cowboy hat, it looks pretty close to the famous ad illustration.

Much closer to the illustration. I just assumed that the 80's version looked the way it did due to being foam filled until you guys pointed it out. I have both the Don Post and the Trick or Treat Shock Monster. While the TOTS mask goes for a more realistic approach the Don Post mask really looks a lot like the classic illustration and is a great mask that can be had cheap.

That's a cool photo, Ray. I've never seen that one. I can't wait to see what wil end up in the book.

Gory, when we were talking about the DPS Mummy reissues, I forgot to mention that I am in the process of buying one of the two original paint masters for the reissue Mummy. The paint master, along with a set of hands produced by Rob Tharp are with Kelly Mann now for a special project I am having him do. I'll post pics when the time comes of the progress. Here is a shot of the mask and hands.

Hey CG, is this pic the paint master you acquired? Sure looks like it.  :)

My Wolfman arrived today! As well as an amazing custom Klaus Kinski Nosfaratu by the Tharps.

Crimson Ghost

Gory, that could be the other version paint master that my buddy owns. There was one of each style (A&B)
I'll post some info tonight regarding as to why the reissue Hyde was so red.

Here is mine next to the photo- you can see differences in the sculpts
