Title: HALLOWEEN Stuff In Stores For 2016
Post by: Monsters For Sale on August 10, 2016, 10:11:03 PM
Looks like some places are getting things already.

Like this:

Styrofoam Heads at Michaels Craft Stores.  Makes sense, they need painting and whatever before the holiday.

And this:

Bates Motel display.

(Let's try to post our Halloween finds in one place so things are easier to find.)

Monsters for Sale---you mis-read my post brother. The (never produced apparently) Hawthorn Bates House and Motel is an item that was supposed to have been released years ago....that I had never heard of until now. It isn't a new item. As a matter of fact....its most likely an unproduced snipe hunt.

Oops.

Too bad.  I'm sure that would have been a popular item.

Our own Unknown Primate would have loved these.

Stuff like this makes me think of him.

Three days ago I was shopping at Toys-TR-Us for toys for a 2-year-old's birthday, when I saw a shelf full of the big versions of the white guy.  Like this:

But they did not have any Brown ones.

I thought of UP that day, too.

My local Dollar Tree store has begun putting out some small, generic items and has an isle bags of candy in Halloween-themed boxes.

The closest Albertsons Food Market has put out a few items (shopping bags, etc.) at the ends of a couple isles.

How I love to see the first little spatters of Orange & Black.

I was at Home Goods yesterday and they have lots of Halloween oriented product on the shelves. There are plates and cups festooned with skulls, serving pieces in the shape of spiders, dish towels sporting monster images and tons more stuff. I even saw a very large, almost 1/2 scale Karloff Frankenstein upper torso bust cast in what looks like plaster with red LEDs in his eyes. It was a bit pricey for me ($34.99) at the time, but I"m thinking about going back for it.

Also, World Market is starting to put their Halloween stuff on line. There are new items mixed in with the older stuff.

I do believe on both of the Frankenstein figures that while one electrode is located on the neck, the other is located on the temple...for obvious reasons; just enough to avoid those pesky copyright/trademark issues.

Yep....

The Dollar Tree store I visited didn't have anything but candy and small items that you might decorate a table with - very generic.

Yeah, it'd be swell if they rolled all this stuff out w Ole' Gill on it. Creature wine bag? I think you mean toy tote!

Sorry Mike,
I was daydreaming about World Market monster-products-to-be, if they keep cranking out the cool UM stuff each year. And then DarkMonkeyGod joined in (a toy tote/wine bag would be great btw).

There are no Creature goodies I'm aware of yet.

Totally. I had to smile last year when I saw a very average looking  (certainly not a creepy monster collector) mom and her too-cool-for-anything teenage daughter picking out the Frankenstein melamine plates and serving tray. So their products are definitely appealing to the general masses. Which means sales/incentive for them to keep innovating new monster goodies.

You would think that three years of Frankie would be enough.  It's time to move on to the Creature from the Black Lagoon!

Let's not forget the Wolfman and the Mummy (I guess a Bela Dracula would be completely out of the question). BTW, there can NEVER be enough Frankensteins.

Oh yeah, totally can never have enough Frankensteins!

Just in case there're any World Market reps reading this: THANK YOU for continuing to put out some really cool, quality,  (and, most importantly) affordable official Monster merch. I think this entire board appreciates what you've got going.

That being said: Wolfman, Mummy, and Creature products would be very much welcomed as well.

Went to World Market today and talked to their manager and watched them un-crate the monster (muhahaha) shipment, hell I even helped them put together part of the display. I had to goad them to get it off the palette in the back as it just arrived today and they hadn't even unpacked it.  I went through the display guide pamphlet and looked at all of the SKU's for this year.

New for this year:
a new large platter showing the monster (his feet anyway) on the slab with the Dr. and hunchback in the background
http://www.worldmarket.com/product/frankenstein+melamine+serving+platter.do?&from=Search (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/frankenstein+melamine+serving+platter.do?&from=Search)
Coffee mug style flat bottom cups instead of the tea cup style they had last year Bride, Frank, and Bride and Frank (new image this year) http://www.worldmarket.com/product/frankenstein+and+bride+of+frankenstein+mug+set+of+4.do?&from=Search (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/frankenstein+and+bride+of+frankenstein+mug+set+of+4.do?&from=Search)

New large Tote bags with the doctor mixing brew on one side and frank and bride on the other
four pillows two throw pillows and two lumbar pillows
Dr. mixing liquids (lumbar) http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+frankenstein+laboratory+lumbar+pillow.do?&from=Search (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+frankenstein+laboratory+lumbar+pillow.do?&from=Search)
seated bride and Frank with dr. and hunchback (lumbar) http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+bride+of+frankenstein+lumbar+pillow.do?&from=Search (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+bride+of+frankenstein+lumbar+pillow.do?&from=Search)
Graveyard scene  pilllow that is truly awesome (throw) http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+frankenstein+graveyard+throw+pillow.do?&from=Search (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+frankenstein+graveyard+throw+pillow.do?&from=Search)
Frankenstein's monster on the slab (throw) http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+frankenstein+monster+throw+pillow.do?&from=Search (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+frankenstein+monster+throw+pillow.do?&from=Search)
the lumbar pillows are very thin they don't look poofy at all like the online store pictures; like the thickness of a seat cushion. they were vacuum packed in the plastic bag so it may take a little poofing up.
drink coaster sets (4 in each) that come in a metal tin http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+monsters+coasters%2C+set+of+4.do?&from=Search (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+monsters+coasters%2C+set+of+4.do?&from=Search)
All of the Melamine plate and the cup stuff is 25% off.

they have lots of the metal trays of Bride and Frank seated (last year's image out of the 3 designs out so far) and the wine tote that were very limited last year.http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+monsters+insulated+wine+tote.do?&from=Search (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/universal+monsters+insulated+wine+tote.do?&from=Search)  http://www.worldmarket.com/product/bride+of+frankenstein+tin+serving+tray.do?&from=Search (http://www.worldmarket.com/product/bride+of+frankenstein+tin+serving+tray.do?&from=Search)
they did not have any candy (bars or suckers) or the paper items (notepads) from last year but did have the same two drink bottles.
I think they only have a license for Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and the Glenn Strange Frankenstein as nothing from any other Universal Film has ever been offered besides a generic cartoon creature and mummy image on the candy suckers that do not seem to have made it to stores at all this year. I seriously doubt we will ever see anything else from them in the way of other universal monsters or products such as Wolfman or Dracula and from the looks of it, the selection this year seems downsized (and on discount sale to boot) so they are likely trying to get rid of back stock of plates and what not and only offering a limited selection of new stuff this year. I wonder how long they will still do new licensed stuff?

I ate my dinner at Wienerschnitzel and asked them about Halloween prizes in the kids meals this year, last several years they had Frankenstein flashlights but the guy said, "Corporate has done away with toys we now give ice cream cones instead."
I don't know how far I trust a teenager to be in the know enough to make such pronouncements but it is looking grim.

Zurchers (a party type store with large Halloween selection) had the basic UM stuff including aggravating licensed costumes that look like crap of Frank, Wolfy, Bride and Mummy but nothing new.

Halloween City and Spirit (seasonal costume stores ) hadn't really unpacked their stuff yet.
Michaels and JoAnn's (Craft stores) didn't have anything really interesting. Piss on Hobby Lobby I don't shop there.

the manager said most of the UM stuff sold like crazy last year (within a week or two) and then he complained they didn't have any Halloween display beside the depleted stock of unsold cups, napkins and notepads for like half of September and most of October (by Mid October they replace it with Christmas crap anyway)
All kinds of mom types (their basic clientele) bought Franken-plates and serving trays for their Halloween soirees it seems.

I like the metal Creature mask sign, but I'd rather put that money toward a real Ben Cooper mask. I have the BC Creature that was sold as a mask only, but I'd like to get one of the ones that came with the costume.

An odd choice of monster for this product design.  Everyone knows Dracula never drinks... wine.

But you need to find one in a store.  The shipping is outrageous.

They are custom made and not licensed by Universal.  Heaven forbid they put out any collectable even at Halloween but it's OK.  They care about all of their properties. HA!  Feeling cynical today.  Finally was able to go out for a while and went to a few stores to check Halloween items and absolutely no Universal anywhere. Back to EBay I guess.

What the heck is a "sniff"?
It's a little box that reproduces the glorious smell of the undead when opened. They're really quite common.

We are having one of our uncharacteristically grey, cloudy days in Southern California - and I'm loving it!  Feels like we might be getting just that much closer to Halloween.  The sporadic sounds of crows in the trees has made me feel nostalgic for this time of year all over again.

Found this Yikes In the Yard 36" Generic Frankenstein Motion-ette in my local Walgreens Pharmacy.

He is very lightweight.  His eyes light up red, music plays, he swivels his torso, swings his arms and his lower jaw moves.  He dances and sings in time to "Come On baby, Let's Do the Twist" - But sings "Come On Monsters, It's Halloween."

The tag price is $34.99, but the cashier gave him to me for half price.  (I'm not sure he was supposed to be included in the half-off items, but I didn't argue.)

Thought he was OK for $17.50.

He has BIG feet and is very stable.  The only thing missing is electrodes on his neck.  Think I'll find a couple bottle tops, paint them silver and glue them on.

Didn't see any others like him in the store.  Didn't see this line of figures on Walgreens site when I looked.  So have no idea what others Yikes In the Yard makes.  This is a Walgreens exclusive.

Good deal! But I think the cashier misinterpreted the sale, the current one is "Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off" on Halloween decor. Oh well! At the four stores I've been to, I think I've noticed only one Frankenstein at each store, just an FYI to anyone else who might go on a monster hunt.

Found a nice little item at my local Albertsons Super Market.

This 9ΒΌ" figure was located in the shelves facing the greeting card section.  It is a premium from American Greeting Cards.  It can be bought for $9.99 - or it is free with the purchase of 3 American Greeting Cards priced $2.99 or above.  (Find any 3 $2.99 cards and get it for a buck cheaper - even if you throw the cards away.)

They must be some sort of plastic.  If you thump them they make a dull sound not unlike papier mache, but they are very solid and strong - not ceramic.

The wood pattern of the coffin goes all the way around the figure so there are no blank sides.  Nice for a free-standing figure or bookend.  Cut a slot in the top and a round hole in the bottom and use as a piggy bank.

There are 2 other figures with this coffin-backed design.  One is a Witch with a cauldron and the other is a Vampire who is stepping out from the coffin.  (Sorry, I didn't have a camera with me in the store.)

The tags on these say they are distributed by Albertsons, so they may not be available from other retailers.

They don't always display them at the same spots.  In past years, the American Greetings Cards premium figures were displayed at the ends of the card isles or candy isles, up high.  Try looking around - or another Albertsons.

The ones I saw were in the middle of the Seasonal items isle, low down, almost hidden.  Funny, they had about 10 each of the Witches and Vampires - but only 1 Frankenstein.

'Saw a new Zogone Studios mask today.
When you wear this mask, only your mouth and chin are exposed, as the mask provides the eyes and nose.
It's a homage to computer jocks who spend extra hours staring at their screens.
Thus a worn out big eye vibe...

KMart is selling their own version of the Walgreens "Yikes In the Yard" 3 ft Generic Frankenstein Motion-ette.  This one is wearing alternate clothing and is obviously from a catalog illustration.  The KMart Frank is being sold under the "Totally Ghoul" label.  (Don't know if the song is the same.)

KMart's list price is $49.99, but can probably be had at a discount from that.

Of course, if it appeals to me - and is not too generic-looking.

This guy looks OK.  Just needs electrodes.  Those are easy to add.  (And mine was only $17.50.)

I'm not waiting on Universal to get off the pot about licensing.  If they don't want their cut of the action, then let the pirates take over and get it all.

I'm a fan of the monsters - not Universal executives.

Looks like most of 'em are in SoCal.  Maybe they will make their way up the coast.  There used to be a cool Halloween Discount Shop in Sacramento.  I remember it from a trip.  I can't remember what it was called, but they had all kinds of vintage stuff.  Granted, we didn't really call it "vintage" in 1997 considering a lot of the stuff was from the early '80s, but it was really cool...  They sold stuff that regular stores no longer stocked.  Really wish I knew the name.

Hard to support a seasonal specialty store of this size.

At least one of the 2 permanent stores is right next to the 5 Freeway.  This is the major freeway that runs the length of our very long state.  It also is traveled daily by commuters from the southern bedroom communities that supply workers to Los Angeles.  Much of their commute is slow (or stationary) "rush hour" traffic.  The Halloween Club signs and displays get an awful lot of free exposure 24 hours a day.

It is always fun to drive by during the Christmas season and see all the brightly lit Halloween displays.

This southern stretch is surrounded by wall-to-wall towns.  They have all built out to the point that it is impossible to tell when you have left one town and entered another.

Maybe being spread out is too much hassle for the owners.  They only do the additional stores on a seasonal basis, like Spirit.

You very close to San Francisco?  Seems like that would be a good area for a similar store.

I wish they had them all over the country, so everyone could have access.  (But I also wish manufacturers made more varied, and better, product for them to stock.)

Nope.  Not in Cali.  Way up the coast.  But we could use one in Seattle or Portland.  I'd be willing to drive a bit to see one, just not all the way to LA.  hahaha

Fortunately, that population density hasn't really taken over 5 up here, but it's coming...  No doubt of that.  Still, I want to see this place at least once.

Greetings- I just found a 5 foot, "Paper Jointed Cutout" at DOLLAR TREE. "Imported by "Greenbrier International." It has no specific name (Mine would be "Vampire Woman in a purple dress"), but it is definitely based on an image of Yvonne DeCarlo as LILY MUNSTER with her streak of white hair among the black. (Sorry, no photo) i looked thru the stack and noted no other "MUNSTER"-related figures.

Sorry if these have already been posted but I didn't see them in the thread.  I found these at Kroger yesterday, they are selling for $20 each. They are made out of a kind of chalky ceramic.  I didn't buy one only because the chins were kind of chipped up.  I'm hoping to find a better example at a different Kroger.

house window clings

A friend purchased this one and it is MUCH LARGER than life size, so it would be good for a 2nd story window
- it's called the Menacing Mummy

the cling has a gap in the center, so it needs to have a window pane to conceal the gap as shown

Since this is obviously a popular thread, I'll throw in my two cents.  I haven't seen a whole lot of things literally in stores this year for Halloween that have peeked my interest.  However, most of you know that I'm very hard to please when it comes to modern Halloween merchandise.  Among the things that interested me in stores this year include but are not limited to:

1. Trick or Treat Studios Gremlins Stripe mask at my local costume shop.

2. Trick or Treat Studios Krampus mask at my local costume shop.

3. Airblown Inflatable Jack Skellington at Walmart.  Someone should be suing Walmart for false advertising, as they have a Jack Skellington inflatable on display with a price of $28.99, but they don't actually have it for sale...  Seriously, who does this?

And that's about it.  I could be forgetting a few things, so I'll update this post if I think of anything else.

A lawn display in my area. 'Used a light up pumpkin head for his full size lawn greeter. I want to meet anyone that loves Halloween enough to make this for the neighborhood to enjoy, indeed...

'Hoping to get a night time shot of this with the head lit up of course.

My parents raised 2 kids, including me who wants to watch horror movies and sci-fi and adventure movies all day long. While my brother cares only about watching sports all day.

Not being a sports fan, being stuck in a room with one, strikes me as real horror.
