It's actually two 15-foot leads put together. It gives him a good portion of the yard to roam. We started him on the collar & leads as a kitten, so he's used to them. He used to walk with my mother, before she broke her hip (and, just this April, her left knee.) I use two canes to walk, so I can't walk him. I sit out on the patio while he "explores," as we refer to it. I read in Cat Fancy that most cats prefer harnesses, but he's too old to be changing it up now.

He was born 9-11-2000. We were a little preoccupied on his first birthday, as you might imagine. I think we finally remembered around 10:30 that night!
Here he is, playing with his favorite toy: a catnip-filled cordouroy & yarn spider on an elastic cord.

We have the prettiest little stray Calico in my neighborhood. She was abandoned 2 years ago by people up the block that moved out on a foreclosure. Several people have tried taking her in, but she ends up wanting back out. No one seems willing to take her in and dealing with making her stay in, or with getting her fixed. Ignatz goes after her whenever she comes around and I've got him out, so I can't take her in out of fear he'll hurt her. People leave food and water out for her, and she certainly keeps the rat and mouse populations down.

That's one of my biggest fears, too. But, she stays pretty close. I let her sleep on my patio chairs. Maybe come this winter, I can find somebody to take her it. Just wish I knew more people in the apartment complex & surrounding neighborhood.

I'm admittedly not a "cat-person".  My daughter & her boyfriend AND their FOUR cats just moved into an apartment after staying with us for 2 months.  I kinda got attached to 2 of them.  They've been gone about 2 weeks now.  So my daughter rescues this little, tiny black kitten from the side of a fairly busy road on the outskirts of town, right before a huge storm hit.  She brought it over last night to tempt the wife & I into keeping it.  It's cute and all, but we sent her on her way.  She brought the kitten back today...  So I'm sitting in my chair and the next thing you know, the damn little furball crawls up and nestles in the crook of my arm and promptly falls asleep!  This is NOT fair!  I will NOT like this kitten!  I will NOT like this soft, tiny, adorable little kitty cat...  I won't...

I won't...

Dammit...

UP, your story reminds me of the Merry Melodies? cartoon with the big bulldog and the kitten he wants no part of----------initially... then it nuzzles in his back hair for a nap.  Good luck.

Thanks, Sean!  My wife said something about Chopper & Yacky Doodle, but I think she was actually thinking of the cartoon you mentioned, LOL!

UP, the name of the kitten in the bulldog cartoon HAS TO BE a finalist--------whatever it is.

Sean

The bulldog from Merry Melodies/ Looney Tunes was Marc Antony and the kitten's name was Pussy Foot.
