The scariest thing might be thinking about chewing the petrified granite-like stick of gum lurking within.  ;D

Would anybody have stopped buying these things if they had stopped including the gum?

Nice set of packs!  :)

Zacherle The Cool Goul (Chiller Theatre, 2004) is a small set of 10 cards featuring fave horror host Zacherley. Scans of cards 1-9 follow.

Backs:

Yeah, I know, they spelled ghoul wrong on the card fronts. They also left off the "y" from the end of Zacherley's name which Zach added to help people pronounce it properly.

I chewed the gum occasionally, but I often just tossed it in the trash. It was usually hard even back then;D

Wow! Those are some glaring mistakes! It's called "proofreading", guys!

It had to be hard and dry, so it didn't stain the cards. It was terrible gum, hard or soft.

Yep, it was pretty bad. We're fortunate Topps and the other trading card guys opted for the hard, dry stuff so that the cards didn't suffer from the staining that soft, better tasting gum would have inflicted. We could buy gum for a penny back then. When we bought a pack of cards it was to dig into those cards, daddyo! And, also to enjoy the cool wrappers.  :)

Thanks, Mord.

I'm working on getting some of the Hammer Horror autograph cards now. Compared to what you have to pay for an autographed photo at a show there are some really good deals on these autographed cards. I value the cards more than the photos because they are part of something bigger- the set. The only thing they lack is a personalized signature, but even those might bite you if you decide to sell or trade later.

You know, most card sets from the last twenty years are really cheap now- like $5-$10 for a base set, but these Hammer Horror cards are different. The print runs on them must have been smaller than most card series. The only really cheap set of Hammer Horror cards of the first four (CMA) sets is the Series 2 set from Cornerstone (1996) that I posted earlier in this thread. Those are all over eBay for $10-$20 a set. The chase cards and promo cards are expensive, but the base set is cheap. The Series 1 Hammer Horror (Cornerstone, 1995) occasionally surfaces at around $40-$50 a base set, and some of those chase cards hardly ever come up for sale. I just recently picked those up including the tough chase cards, but no Series 1 autograph cards yet. The latter two Cornerstone/CMA sets hardly ever show up for sale- the Entombed set from 2000, and the Behind The Screams set (RiverWye) from 2004. The latest HH sets from Strictly Ink (2008,2010) can still be bought fairly cheaply at around $10 a base set, but you have to get them from UK dealers usually. Chase cards and promo cards from all six sets are expensive, and sometimes hard to find. In a few years all of these Hammer sets will be scarce and expensive I would wager. Anyone who wants them should jump pretty soon.

Thanks! I just got them!

Awesome! Do you have a rare hammer autographed by Cameron Mitchell from The Toolbox Murders (1978)?

Nah. All I got is an autographed photo of David Rasche from "Sledge Hammer".
