Universal Studios Poster Artist for UM
« on: July 13, 2022, 09:52:37 PM »
I’ve been trying to figure out whom the artist was for the Phantom of the Opera posters from the 1925 release. The art looks a lot like the work of Karloy Grosz. However, while he did produce many of the monster movie posters for Universal, he is not credited for the Phantom. Robert Cochrane was the main advertising designer in the 1920’s  and it could be his work?

Does anyone know who did the art? Cochrane? Grosz? Or is it some completely different artist that I’m missing? Any help would be appreciated !

It doesn't look like Grosz, to me.

I checked three books in my library about movie posters and couldn't even find their names.
Maybe the so-called experts don't even know!

A lot of posters artists names are lost to history. Even as late as the '50s, nobody knows who did the art for classic posters, such as "Forbidden Planet" and "Them!".
