. . most of the Millcreek DVDs I've seen are of terrible quality.

There PD stuff (like the 50 movie sets) is, but they've been rereleasing a lot of Columbia movies that should be as good the original DVDs. There may be some compression problems with the 4 movie sets, but they are pressed DVDs, whereas some of the originals were DVDR.

I totally hear you on what to upgrade and do careful research before I do. A good example is the latest Blu Ray release of "Day of the Dead" by Scream Factory. I already have the Anchor Bay release in all forms. Standard DVD, DIVAMAX DVD and Blu Ray so I was hesitant about the Scream Factory release. Turns out it's missing some of the extras of the Anchor Bay release so they created their own 90 documentary to make up for the missing extras. Point being it will not replace the previous AB release. Scream Factory does some impressive stuff though. Their Halloween III release is great and I just picked up their new release of Stuart Gordons' "From Beyond" where all the deleted scenes removed by the MPAA for an R rating are restored. Looking forward to watching that. Thanks for the dvddrive-in tip.

I had previously posted a comparison between the AB Divamax dvd and Shout/Scream Factory dvd/bluray release http://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/forum/index.php?topic=19899.msg402529#msg402529

Nice! I got a lot of my information about this release from DVD Talk as well. I wound up buying Shout/Scream Factory's releases of The Incredible Melting Man, Tales from the Crypt/Vault of Horror, Halloween III, From Beyond and Day of the Dead.

Basket Case, The Trilogy
(UK Steel Book Region Free Blu Ray set)

Finally got around to watching these. These movies are some of the craziest horror films I've ever seen. The first one was done on a shoe string budget but introduced the basic premise of the franchise. The second and third had the benefit of bigger budgets making them on par with most horror films of the 80's production wise. This larger budget also allowed director Frank Henenlotter to expand the concept to greater (or lower, depending on your tastes) heights than the first film. I actually prefer the sequels. Each film tops the last in out and out craziness. I had never seen the third installment until I got this set but had always liked the second film. I was literally shaking my head in disbelief at what director Frank Henenlotter had come up with in the final installment. One thing I really like about the sequels is that they introduce a whole pack of crazy new characters that are on the screen for most of the movie as opposed to films where the monster/monsters only show up here and there. It's a practical effects lovers smorgasbord! These are the kind of movies you and your buddies would watch while downing a few cold ones. Hilarious and completely over the top! Two big thumbs up!

Nice to hear. I always liked the original, but I don't think I've even seen the sequels (definitely not the third one). I'm a huge fan of practical effects. CGI seems so cold and manufactured.

Got these today from Amazon, along with that Monster Mash book.

Haven't seen a couple of these. Looks like fun.

Cool stuff HH. I picked up Horror set a few weeks ago. Watched "Mad Magician" last night. Great sets for under $10.

I picked up "Monster Mash" book recently too. Awesome book, a lot of fun.

My "Tales of Dracula" dvd arrived yesterday.

On a side note, I ordered it through "Scary Monsters" magazine. I ordered it on Sat night and it arrived Tues. That's excellent service IMO, so I'd like to give a shout out to a great magazine.

I thought so too, geez. Hard to believe anyone could be sour on those two DVD compilations. The two I hadn't seen were Five and Valley Of The Dragons. Five is good, but more drama than sci-fi. And, ...Dragons is cheezy fun (hell, I'm a dino nut so I even enjoy the fins glued on lizards sub-sub-subgenre , and the two main bims are hawt ta boot.)

The MM book is pretty good but it could stand to be about a hundred pages longer IMO...not exactly a coffee table busting tome there.
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

Great vampire series from Full Moon pictures.

Return Of the Ape Man(1944)

DARK SHADOWS:

David Collins: "Dead people dont just get up and walk around.."

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

Now if they would only release this on Blu Ray. In this day and age this shouldn't even be an issue. I only have A&C meet Frankenstein and would like these others but I'm holding off unitl I'm sure there won't be a Blu Ray release. I don't feel like double dipping.

I feel the same way. I have all of those (minus "Jekyll & Hyde") on the DVD box, anyway.

I have all of the A&C monster titles in the big A&C box, but I'm buying it 'cause I always wanted a "A&C Meet the Monsters" DVD set. :)
