Ghost Rider (2012) -avoid at all costs! The husband and I could only make it through a half hour of this steaming pile of doo doo. Went and got our money back and the girl apologized. I think it's Nicholas Cage who needs to start apologizing to people. Can the man do anything but act manic any more? He wasn't the only problem with it but he sure stood out. Terrible.

Halloween (2007) -Rob Zombie reboot.

First of all, I saw the original when it came out in the theater and it immediately became one of my all time favorites.  The iconic movie is a solid a+ in my library.

Having said that, I have to give this one a very solid A.  This is not the same Michael Myers.  (OK it is but he is portrayed with a difference)  By seeing what he came from, it is now more understandable his downward spiral into the empty blackness of his madness.  The old movie portrayed his family almost like the Cleavers in comparison through what little we saw of them.  With this movie, we see all of the horror that shaped him in his youth.  What made him snap.  And it is written very well with an understanding of what really creates madness in the real world.  While the first one is an iconic myth, this is how it would really happen. Watching the interview with Rob Zombie, he voiced some of the same things I felt watching this movie.  To paraphrase, by seeing what creates this monster, we have a little sympathy for him.  Yes, he is a killer.  Yes, he is insane.  Now we know why.  The few moments where we almost see the old, tragic young boy come back to fill the empty shell, we sympathise and understand what drives him back.  He has become a self fulfilling reason to go back behind his mask and emotionally vulnerable when physically he is not.

I have yet to see the sequel to see how he goes from here but if you have avoided this movie because it is no longer a myth but a real exploration into madness, see this movie.

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

......but if you have avoided this movie because it is no longer a myth but a real exploration into madness, see this movie.

Or you could just see half a dozen other movies both factual and fictional or documentaries that cover the same ground!! ;)
