Oh this is a very, very sad. Such a sad loss. Although I never met him or even had a chance to chat to him here at the UMA, from what I have read in this post and from other posts and pictures of himself I have read and seen, I really wish I had met the man. R.I.P.

I would have rather cut off my hands than do it.
Gary, the sad truth is, we're all getting older. A lot of us here are in our 50's, 60's, and even older. It's going to become more frequent, not less. It doesn't make us any less sad that it happened. We all have so many wonderful memories of Mark to share with each other, though. And his posts on the boards will always be there for us to glimpse and remember. We're all devastated right now, and Mark wouldn't want that. What you're doing with the art thread, now, that's something he'd have really gotten a kick out of! Let's celebrate him, even as we mourn him.

UNIVERSAL MONSTER ARMY

Code Name Primal Ape

Real Name Mark Stamper

Called by the team the Unknown Primate or the Great Golden Gorilla Mark swings his way into action. His hairy corpulent chest is criss crossed with the scars of his adventures and from his unknown origin and maker. Some say he is the missing link, others that he broke it. Primal Ape once wrestled a train into submission before plunging off the trestle to his doom. You can't put a good ape down though and with current acquisitions of Gorilla and Sasquatch body part replacements always in store to repair himself the monster continues to terrorize. When the team needs the strength of Kong they turn to the immortal Primal Ape.

Our hairy hero now will be doing the saving and flaunting his bravery in heaven. His immortality will be in our memories and the memories of others whose lives he touched.

On a serious note he will be missed here on these boards and in the hearts of those who knew him. He was greatly admired and will be greatly missed. Mark was a man of many fine qualities, my condolences to his loved ones.

Wow. I'm just hearing about this, and I'm shocked and saddened. I didn't know him as well as everyone else here did, but I liked reading his posts. He had a fantastic sense of humor that always got me going, and he seemed like a great person to me. I'm glad that in the short time I've been here, I got to see some of that.

Relic

I'm still pretty new here, so I didn't know him.  I occasionally read a few of his comments on some posts. and thought this guy's got a great sense of humor! A real likable person! Sorry I wasn't able to comment on any of his posts
It seems like he has touched a lot of you in a very special way.
Rest in Peace ( Unknown Primate )  :(

I'm Mark Stamper, also known as Golden Gorilla and Unknown Primate.  I was born in Muncie, Indiana on May 29, 1956.

Besides my love for monsters, the most interesting things about me are probably my former professions and my familiarity with injuries and brushes with death.  I'm a former professional wrestler, bouncer & railroad laborer.  Fell off a 40 foot train trestle in 1976.  Hit by a car twice.  Thrown off a motorcycle twice.  Broke my back twice.  Quadruple heart bypass.  Pacemaker.  ICD. (better living through electricty ;)).  Three back surgeries.  Well, you get the picture.

I have around 6 feet of surgical (and other) scars on my ape-like body, including a beautiful 20 incher on my back which took 55 staples to close, after the docs had deflated my lung and sawed off one of my ribs!  Oh yeah - I wear leg braces, made from leather, stainless steel and high grade aluminum.  I'm steam punk!  I'm obsessed with King Kong, Bigfoot, Gorillas & Frankenstein.

Hope I didn't overdo it!

You didn't over do it big guy. You were one of a kind.

I haven't been around for a while but had to come and check after I saw this news on Facebook. Mark was one of those people who always had a kind word for everyone and I knew I could always count on a supportive comment from him whenever I posted anything. Rest in peace friend.

This is tuff news....heard from Gary last night about the passing of Mark our Unknown Primate. If the heart of our UMA resides anywhere it is within Gary (Scatter) Vaillancourt, my brother and brother to us all here on the UMA. The loss of our beloved UP hit him extremely hard. UP was a true joy in our UMA family. Friends and brothers forever, Mark....yep, that's forever......

McDougals House of Horror

Our UP wasn't really a big ape, but more like a big ole' lovable Teddy Bear. His much too early passing is a message to us all -- live life to its fullest while we can 'cuz you never know when your time's UP!! We'll miss 'ya bro, but we'll never forget you!

I didn't know him other than what I read on the board, but I looked forward to reading his posts.  He seemed like a great guy.  I'm sorry to hear the sad news, I'll keep his family in my prayers.
