Let's have some fun with the camera on our phones, pics you have on your hard drive or regular ol' camera.
Having said that THE RULES ARE: Pics can not be from google image or anything of the sort--they have to be pics that you took or were taken of you!!!
Stressing the word random, the pics do not have to be horror related, just cool, fun, weird or funny stuff you may have caught on with a lens...and it never needs an explanation. (though feel free to elaborate!)
I'll start...

Blacklagoon's mother would never truly escape her dinning room tables being battlefields for her son's own pleasure....never.

My mummy was a close-up of the Hasbro Mummy sandwiched with some vintage Kodak Verichrome Safety film I found in an old camera that I processed and scanned. The film was last produced in the mid-50s and the last half of the roll was unexposed, so all the texture is a result of time and temperature.
& the Goon's Zombie Priest was made using a random photo editor found on google-

We cats are heavily into dairy products and there's some interesting Toronto dairy history within a half mile of where I live. The brick building at the northeast corner of Kingston Road and Hannaford Street in Toronto has a stone above the door labelling it Ritchie's Dairy. There is also a plaque labelling the wooden strip of houses directly to the north at 3 Hannaford Street the site of the Painted Post Dairy. The corner therefore seems to have been a veritable dairy hotbed.

Hepcat- You look so natural in the presence of all creatures :) You have some beautiful friends! That dairy brings back memories of one I used to go to with my parents back in the 70s. They had the best ice cream sundaes and sold delicious cottage cheese in enormous containers. Well....hopefully we will have very strong bones when we get old- from eating all those sweet dairy products!
Just a few blocks west of the former location of Ritchie's Dairy at the southeast corner of Kingston Road and Main Street is this example of classic diner architecture from the last decade or so of home milk delivery:

Does Deuce pay for his gumballs?
Does Deuce leave 'already been chewed' a.k.a. 'abc gum' all over the house?

Yes, Deuce has to pay a penny per gumball as does everyone else. He disposes of his bubble gum neatly. In fact, his gumball priviledges would be revoked by The MAN if he didn't dispose of his chewed gum properly.

Back right is a Fink made by Japanese toymaker, Planet Toys.

Skunks are such gorgeous animals. Often my wife and I encounter quite a few of them just before sunset during our 1 hour walks. cheers! :)
I've only seen one skunk this year .. because of coyotes in the area, the cats are taken inside around dusk but previous to that .. we believe that one of the cats had an affair going with a or some skunks .. he would leave messages on a bush down the block and in turn (I've seen it happen more than once) the skunks would go over and leave him a message. None of the cats in the neighborhood have to my knowledge been scented or had a fight with a skunk. I'm told that one cat across the street would follow the skunks around at night.

Ah, Charleston Chews!! LOVED those things (except the vanilla, the chocolate and strawberry rocked!). My brother got busted stealing one from Mayo's Drug Store back in the 70s. It was in the same plaza as my dad's barber shop.
When my dad found out from Mr Mayo, my brother went down to the drug store every day for a month after school and swept out the store and did whatever Mr Mayo wanted done. Stuff got handled like that back then. No cops, no slap on the wrist, no "just forget about it, no big deal", no worries about damaging the psyche of the thief. You got taught a lesson, on top of the ass-whipping.
Quote from: Scatter on October 06, 2013, 05:18:36 PM...no worries about damaging the psyche of the thief.
Yes, and no need for expensive psychological counselling to help him cope with that damage to his psyche. Other kids would I'm sure have provided that for free.
;)
;D
A good ass-whipping and some hard work are all the therapy 99% of people need. I exempt myself, of course............for obvious reasons. :D

Just the 1 track. Not a huge place. But they have everything there for you to build your own car and race them. They do a lot of race parties, but there is "open track" time as well. I haven't been there in a while. The place is on Rte 33 in Freehold NJ. It might come up as Farmingdale on a search. It's at most 15 minutes from me. I'm itching to go back.

(I am so jealous that this is guy-territory. We have a go-kart track in town, and I take my shop's employees - all women - out there and we race for a few hours every year. Our "employee meeting". Great fun. But slot cars look like fun, too. I wonder what constructing the wooden sets would be like? What the underside looks like? Some kind of electric rail, yes?)

In the heyday of the slot car boom from 1963-67, tracks could be ordered from companies such as American Model Raceways, Mr. Raceways and Revell Raceways.
The tracks would be pre-assembled in sections at a production plant and then shipped to the hobby shop/slot car emporium for final assembly. By late 1965 more than 5500 had been installed in hobby shops and dedicated slot car raceways in North America!
But the mass commercial producers are long gone and these days woodworking skills are definitely a necessity. Here by way of example are some work-in-progress pictures as a track is constructed:

Worse yet slot car racing at dedicated slot car emporiums has become an old guy thing. Very few youngsters seem to graduate from home sets these days to full fledged racing at slot car raceways. Part of the reason is that it's really tough to draw youngsters away from their TV sets and video games for very long. The other part of the reason is that in this day and age of helicopter parenting, free range kids who would be allowed to walk, bike or take the bus several miles to their local slot car raceway are a thing of the past. So sad.

Hep, thank you very much for that exhaustive photo-essay on the slot car tracks. I really appreciated the undersides but I'd never considered these tracks would have been manufactured by a few companies. Then I realized that made perfect sense. If there were national or regional competitions, the tracks would need to have at least semi-standardized curves and banking, guard-rail settings, so all contestants would be familiar with those details.
And from a manufacturing standpoint, the curvature of rails and wooden tracks require a precision that would be so expensive and time-consuming unless it was done with pre-existing molds and tools. You just couldn't keep recreating the wheel, so to speak.
I've enjoyed the Dave & Buster type racetracks (large, multi-screen, side-by-side drivers) but, compared to go-kart racing, in person, or even on jet-ski's - videogames won't get my quarters. I wonder how I'd have reacted to the constant 'cars flying off track-rails' issue?
Quote from: ChristineBCW on November 18, 2017, 07:56:33 PMI really appreciated the undersides but I'd never considered these tracks would have been manufactured by a few companies.
Those companies. e.g. American Model Raceways, Mr. Raceways and Revell Raceways, all disappeared in the late sixties though. Any "new" track since is either a refurbished old track or newly custom built.

Actually about the only thing that's standardized from track to track is the ordering of the lane colours: red, white, green, orange, blue, yellow, purple and finally black.

Quote from: ChristineBCW on December 03, 2017, 04:56:14 PMDo the UMA posters have pharmacies with operating luncheon counters still?
I know of none still operating in my broadly defined neck of the woods.
There was though an old-fashioned soda fountain in Cairncross the Chemists' pharmacy in my hometown of London, Ontario at Dundas St. and Clarence up until 1979 when the building was demolished. But I didn't realize that it was even there since there was nothing about the exterior of the store to lure me in as a youngster. The wares in Birr's Nuthouse (later Nut and Candy Land) right next door always drew my eye instead. Model kits, comics, bubble gum cards, potato chips, soda pop, etc. were available in several other stores in the immediate vicinity and I don't think I ever ventured inside Cairncross until late in the afternoon one Christmas Eve in 1977 or 1978 to buy some bubble bath or a perfumed powder puff for my sister.
Here's a photo of that Cairncross pharmacy from early in the twentieth century:
But by the late 1940's in fact Cairncross the Chemists had expanded to a chain of six(!) stores in London with the newest in the Hotel London billing itself as London's first "New Look" drug store!
https://www.facebook.com/vintagelondon/photos/pb.256233541169617.-2207520000.1475184476./967154970077467/?type=3 (https://www.facebook.com/vintagelondon/photos/pb.256233541169617.-2207520000.1475184476./967154970077467/?type=3)
And that large, "ultra modern" location had a soda fountain too! Thing is though that as a kid/young fellow I never had reason to pass through the doors of the Hotel London which was demolished in 1972. Therefore I wasn't even aware of the existence of that Cairncross store in the Hotel London and can't even tell you whether it lasted until 1972. Oh well....
Just another instance of not knowing what you've got till it's gone. The Whistle Stop Drive-In was another such place until it was destroyed by a gas leak explosion(?) sometime in the mid-1980's. It was a fabulous diner with foot long hot dogs that prompted train crews to stop just three blocks from the downtown London CNR station for a quick bite whenever they were on schedule. Meanwhile I dropped in to sample the offerings no more than once or twice despite the fact that it was less than half a mile from my house! Arrrggghhh!!!

Hep, how are the bagels there? I find that in the US, the further I get from NYC, the worse the bagels get.
Hah! You know you've unwittingly stirred up a hornet's nest of controversy with that statement and inquiry. You see Montreal bagels and New York bagels are derived from two different old-country bagel making traditions:
Quote from: WikipediaMontreal bagels, like the similarly shaped New York bagel, were brought to North America by Jewish immigrants from Poland and other Eastern European countries; the differences in texture and taste reflect the style of the particular area in Poland in which the immigrant bakers learned their trade.
Montreal bagels are always baked in a wood-fired oven and Montreal bagels are smaller, thinner, sweeter, denser and less regularly shaped with a larger hole than New York bagels. Each tradition has its own hardened supporters who sneer at the other. The diaspora of anglophones in the last forty years from Montreal throughout the rest of Canada has spread the gospel of Montreal bagels not only across Canada but as far as Los Angeles. Bagels in Canada are oft touted as "Montreal bagels", and almost as often this turns out to be little better than an outright fabrication.
Moreover Montreal itself is divided into two warring camps; those who swear by the intrinsic superiority of Fairmount bagels, and those who equally ardently extol the merits of St.-Viateur's bagels from the exact same neighbourhood:

Both bakeries are open 24 hours and have for decades been drawing line-ups out onto the street weekend mornings even in the dead of winter! St.-Viateur actually had to resort to opening a second shop just half a block across the street to handle the overflow of customers.

Oh indeed! Mille feuilles are simply exquisite! In downtown Montréal for good chicken and a mille feuille I always try to get to la Rôtisserie St. Hubert at venerable old Windsor Station which from 1889 to 1996 served as Canadian Pacific Railway's head office. The building is an absolute architectural marvel:

Mr Steer has an excellent downtown location right where all the action is on rue Ste.-Catherine, great diner ambience and food that always hits the spot:

Hep, is that a peep-show next to Mr. Steer?
Looks like it... I'm unfamiliar with so much of Montreal but I do love the old castle-buildings all over - well, they're bureaucratic offices, gov't buildings, etc. I suspect they're not so keen on the inside, by the way - old wiring, plumbing, heating, etc. The worst thing that visitors do is come to Montreal during the beautiful-weather months, and everything's gleaming and sooo attractive. AttractING. Then, when the gray winter months arrive, lordy - gray skies, gray pavement, gray buildings... ugh.
But we've always taken short-timer attitudes: "We're only here for 2 weeks or a month" and that never depressed me. But I could imagine Bill Murray's GROUNDHOG DAY soliloquoy about "endless days of nothingness" among residents.
As for bagels and food in general, I love 'em all. I love the small bakeries whose aromas drag me down a whole block to find, and step inside somewhere warm from a wintry, damp chill and be rewarded with the full, complete, enriching experience.

So many great architectural detail in those Montreal pics!! And YES, I love me some bakery aroma. I can never resist it. ;D

No. Those establishments on either side of Mr Steer are both full fledged strip joints!

Here's a helpful tip for those already planning their 2019 New Year celebrations. Sterno (a.k.a. White Lightning) is the drink of choice of those who absolutely, positively need to keep it real! No suburban high school kids or other poseurs need apply.
Sterno will get you there fast! But it's only for those man enough not to complain once they get there.
;)
So Hep,aren't there any bars or liquor stores near you.Sounds a bit dangerous to your health and could lead to an explosion if your a smoker.Better keep a fire extinguisher handy. We don't want Hepcat in the Cemetery Section.
Actually we felines don't partake of alcoholic beverages at all. Sterno is merely my suggestion to you humanz types.
;)
Another Montreal export that's taken the rest of Canada by storm in the last 25 years is the Montreal smoked meat sandwich:
These were perhaps introduced to Montreal by Benjamin Kravitz who founded Bens De Luxe Delicatessen & Restaurant in 1910. Bens sadly gave up the ghost in 2006 due to labour cost pressures among other things, but the smoked meat served in many of the deli restaurants in Montreal including Schwartz's, Lester's, Dunn's, Smoke Meat Pete's, Snowdon Deli, Jarry Smoked Meat and Reuben's is simply transcendent.
8)
But like I say, Montreal smoked meat is no longer confined to Montreal so like poutine it's widely available throughout the rest of Canada.
:)

Down in Uvalde, Texas (west of San Antonio), there was a Rexall pharmacy with a counter, great burgers, and the only time I've ever had phosphates to drink.
But alas, my Google search shows that it's been closed in the last couple of years, with photos only from 2012 and 2014. Uvalde became too popular and ended up with larger chain pharmacies. The old Rexall pharmacists couldn't keep trained staff due to higher wages elsewhere, and it was difficult and expensive for them to hire Temp Pharmacists for much needed vacations. The two main pharmacists worked 4-5-6 years' straight. They eventually closed up shop when, as an independent, the big pharma distributors were cutting all the deals with competitors but sticking it to the indies.
