Oops... forgot to mention Mike Scott's avatar from one of my favorite films, CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN.  This is one of the earlier "CSI" type of films I've found, where the central character is a 'crime scene investigator' who conveniently carries around an early geiger counter.  Whew.  We're soooo lucky.

But I think this film might be one of the first Politically Correct examples. 

In 1951, the Kefauver Committee had conducted two years of interviews about the Mafia, and the results were an increased sensitivity that Italian Americans suffered from associations to the Mafia.  In the next few years, this 'political correctness' picked up a bit of steam, and quite a few scoffs. 

However, in CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN, we have a dark, swarthy, slick-haired once-deported mobster using the name "Frank  Buchanan" (as opposed to the Kefauver Committee's infamous witness, Frank Costello).   Plus this Buchanan had 'rescued' a Nazi scientist 'while in Europe' (Italy?!! that's unnamed in the film dialog).  Of course, by this film's writing date (1954?  it was released in '55), there was ample evidence that Germans had fled into Italy for transport to the Americas.   Holy illegal immigrants, Batman!!

Anyway... I thought it was 'cute' that we have this early example of Political Correctness, avoiding an Italian moniker so soon after the Kefauver dust-up had only begun to settle.  I just don't know how many other 'mobsters' were depoted from the USA, and to where, if not Italians and Italy.  Could it be that Scotsmen were actually behind the crime empires, after all?!!
