Hello all you boils and ghouls :)  My screen name is Spookymulder1986 because I'm a huge x-files fan as well as a fan of all things spooky! I'm excited to join this group, and share my love for the universal monsters with the rest of you. I'm a collector, and my current growing collections include the Universal Monsters (mostly Creature, but the rest as well), Dark Shadows, X-files, R.L. Stine memorabilia, Nancy Drew originals, Horror collectibles of all kinds, and figures from film, and tv. I'm a lover of creativity and scariness for all ages!

Hey! I don't think I've ever gone through the official induction into UMA. If I did already, my apologies for the redundancy!

My name's Rod Labbe, and I'm both a horror fan and a freelance writer. The very first horror film I ever saw was "From Hell it Came," which I pinpoint at approximately September of 1958, when I was 5. My older sister, then 11, started bringing me to horror films, and for the next two to three years, we saw many of the classics together. I vividly recall standing out in the rain, waiting to buy a ticket for "Bluebeard's Ten Honeymoons!" That was truly a golden time for me...and for my sister, too.

As for writing, I was "into" short fiction for a long while then switched over to freelance when I had an article idea and sent it into Fangoria. Amazingly, they published it (an interview with novelist John Coyne), and that started a long association with the magazine. From 1988-1996, I was their "Stephen King connection" in Maine, where I live. I covered all of the King films made up here, starting with Pet Sematary and ending with Storm of the Century. After a long hiatus, I returned to Fango and have been doing quite a bit of stuff with them on Dark Shadows, including covering the Johnny Depp film last year. I've also written for Scary Monsters, Famous Monsters of Filmland, Diabolique, and FilmFax. This year (2013), I received my third Rondo nomination--haven't won yet! Maybe three times will be the charm.

This year, I also received word that my very first horror novel, a ghost story entitled "The Blue Classroom," will be published by Samhain horror in May of 2014. They'll also be publishing my second book, probably in early 2015. Being a novelist was my goal upon graduation from college. It's taken me almost 30 years, but looks like I've made it! I'm anxious to see where all this will lead.

Many thanks for the nice reception I've received here. Looks like a fun place!
