Wolfman

If this lunchbox is not released, I'm changing their name to Especially Mean Corporate Enemies (EMCE). So there!

EMCE Toys did respond to my Facebook inquiry. They're having trouble with Universal's approval process and licensing department, which shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone here. The prototypes are complete, but they need to be approved before moving to the next stage  and apparently Universal is just dragging its feet. It's a waiting game right now. At least, that's my understanding.

I really hope that the current prototypes are unchanged from the original announcement pictures. The Universal Licensing Dept. is like a curator at a museum who has no appreciation or understanding of art.

So you wont be buying that DST Wolfman?

Anton Phibes

If word comes down that the box is scrapped before that figure is released: then no, I won't be buying that Wolfman or Mummy. I will stand by my guns.

It really is infuriating that Universal would drag this out, since they really seem to have no interest in doing anything with the classic monsters other than wringing a few more bucks out of them. The lunchbox is an item of obvious interest to collectors. Why delay it? Most likely, since it won't make it in time for this Halloween — the big season for all monster-related merchandice — we're probably looking at either a December release, or sometime in 2016.

Their facebook page now has this post...

"Getting lots of calls and messages about our Universal Monsters Lunchbox and "Monsters Vs. Villagers" army men and all we can say is that the prototypes are done but we are waiting for resolution of some kind of admin thing between our clients at Diamond and the studio. Any other news will appear here as it happens."

The resolution would be to buy the rights outright to the Universal Monsters.  No more licensing.  Just buy the Monsters in their entirety.  If I had the money, I would do it.   ;D

And if we don't get the art AS IS, I'd rather not have any of this released.  Update the style guide using this art.  Problem solved.  But Universal's not going to go for that.   ::)

Dude, you're hired. Pack your bags & head to Universal Studios. Their licensing dept. needs you (and so do we).

I'm sure there are a number of people who went into licensing over there only to have their dreams crushed by the powers that be.  But, if I could, I would give it a shot.   ;D

If our classics are ever forgotten this will be the reason why. Continued style guides and other stupidity. There hasnt been any problems keeping Aliens, Predator, Jason, Freddy, Michael and Leatherface, etc. going strong. Those properties's lunchboxes, etc. dont seem to be getting held up by EMCE. NECA doesnt seem to have any problems releasing figures of those characters. Heck---they even got Weaver on board for Alien/Aliens. Which, from what i hear, has always been darn near impossible.

But good old Universal could damage an adamantium anvil. Blockheads. :'(

Between the studio and estate heirs, there are just too many legal hurdles to clear with our beloved Universal monsters.  I'm surprised that ANY COMPANY is even attempting to make classic Universal monster products at this point.  There surely can't be much profit in it, and all the headaches & delays in getting a product out to the public must be very disheartening.  Even more so for us fans; to see such a beautiful prototype like this lunchbox never come to fruition will be an absolute shame.  It also doesn't help when you have a marketing department at Universal that has no clue about the importance of these films to the studio and the fans, and what a gold mine they are still sitting on (barely).
