Which was the reason I was hesitating to post mine, that plus the fact that they aren't at all trashy.
This thread is really for any monster magazines that aren't Warren since we already have the other thread for that. The title of this thread is just a hyped exaggeration in good fun, kind of like a sensational cover blurb on one of these very mags. The title isn't meant to be taken literally. Many of the mags posted here are very high quality, the equal or near equal of the Warrens. I could have titled the thread as Non-Warren Monster Magazines but that sounds stale and boring, and not nearly as much fun as the whole Trashy, Garish...title. Also, any non-Warren monster mag has a place here whether it is a text/photo type or a comic art type. Many are tough to classify anyway since they featured both styles. Since this is all just for fun we can be pretty loose with the rules.  ;)

I checked the magazine and found no description of the cover photo. By knowing what it isn't I've narrowed it to something having to do with the "All Manner Of Fantasies" article which covers fantastic cinema from the very beginning with the silents. I Googled images for George Melies films, Paul Wegener films, and many others, and found no match. Maybe someone else that knows will post.

Monsterscene is a photo/text monster mag which ran eleven issues and was published in the '90s. It is an entertaining read but the most noteworthy thing about it is the fact that there were many spectacular Basil Gogos covers that graced the issues. Here are scans of my first five.

Beautiful Gogos cover on #2.

Horrifyingly awesome Chris Lee Dracula by King Basil Of Gogos on #3.

The #4 cover features some of the Universal Monsters Trading Cards by Basil and others.

#5 has a cool cover featuring Bob Burns fleeing his own character- The Mad Mummy!

I had a few scattered issues of Monsterscene but then I ended up winning the entire 11 issue run of them off of Ebay for 10 bucks a few years ago!!

I agree. Pity Monsterscene lased only eleven issues. Above are my two favourite covers. Is the cover to #1 colourized still from The Bride of Frankenstein movie or is it a mock-up done in tribute to the movie?

???

Here's a scan of another House of Hammer magazine from my collection:

The magazine changed it's title to Hammer's House of Horror with issue #19 when a U.S. distribution deal was arranged. Playing the dog in the manger, Jim Warren managed to scotch this arrangement by rushing an ashcan edition of a Warren magazine called House of Horror into print. In order to continue U.S. distribution, HoH was forced to change its name to Halls of Horror with issue #21. Here are scans of my two copies:

I generally never post any Warrens in this thread since we have another good thread for them, but in response to Hep's post above about the Warren House Of Horror I thought I would post mine. I got this from Greg Bazaz through eBay ten years ago. Greg wrote The Graveyard Examiner for Famous Monsters. This copy is signed by Forry on the first page. It isn't ultra high grade but it is nice, probably a VF-NM (9.0) or so. They only printed around 400 of these things so I doubt if many exist in NM (9.4) or better. The highest grade copy I've heard of is NM- (9.2). These things are so scarce I'm just proud to have a copy.

#145
Monsters From The Vault began in 1995 and is still being published, although Jim Clatterbaugh, the publisher and editor, has stated that the end is nigh. MFTV is extremely high quality, certainly one of the very best monster mags ever. Here are my copies of issues 1-5.

Cool Aurora ad on the back cover of #2.

I bought these years ago when they were still inexpensive. I remember buying that #1 at a show in Atlanta for 10 bucks! I even asked the dealer (Rudy) why it was so high!? Now I would buy all the #1s I could for $10 and just hang on to them as investments. Prices have really shot up on certain issues of MFTV because of the low print runs and overall excellence of the magazine.

Check out the fabulous Neal Adams cover on issue #2!

These were published in the seventies by Atlas, a short-lived publishing venture of Martin Goodman of Marvel comics.
