Quote from: horrorhunter on January 18, 2014, 02:00:51 PMThe cover artist for Psycho #8 is Jose Mirelles. He must have used the image of Maggie Kimberly from Hammer's The Mummy's Shroud (1967) as a model for his awesome cover painting.

Right you are!

My only issue of Terrors Of Dracula from moldy Modern Day Periodicals, which is an offputting offshoot of icky Eerie Pubs helmed by smarmy scoundrel Myron Fass.

This title was published near the end of the Eerie Pubs reign of terror  and, as a result, had a lower print run than the earlier output. HTF nowadays.

I'm gonna whip out my...trusty Gick! #4, yeah, that's it, and give a quick overview of that Eerie Pubs reign of terrible...err...terror that I just mentioned.

Eerie Publishing began the bloodletting in 1966 with Weird Vol. 1, #10, and continued through 1981 with Weird Tales Vol. 14, #2. I know this list is incomplete because, even though it lists Eerie Pubs offshoots, it *gasp* fails to list the Terrors Of Dracula title that I posted the issue above from. Here's a rundown of the Eerie Pubs titles, along with offshoots:

Dracula Classics (1976) (1 issue)
Horror Tales (1969-1979) (becomes Classic Horror Tales circa 1976) (45 issues)
Strange Galaxy (1971) (4 issues)
Tales From The Crypt (1968) (1 issue)
Tales From The Tomb (1969-1975) (33 issues)
Tales Of Terror (1968) (1 issue)
Tales Of Voodoo (1968-1974) (36 issues)
Terror Tales (1969-1978) (43 issues)
Weird (1966-1981) (became Weird Tales circa 1981) (63 issues)
Witches Tales (1969-1975) (34 issues)

Offshoot Publications:
Gasm (1977-1978) (5 issues)
Star Battles (1978) (1 issue)
Star Warp (1978) (2 issues)
Weird Vampire Tales (Modern Day Periodicals) (1979-1980) (6 issues)
and I'm adding Terrors Of Dracula (Modern Day Periodicals) (1979-?) (? issues)

I remember an issue of From The Tomb which gives a more comprehensive overview of Eerie Pubs. I'll dig that out and post it a little later.

The most comprehensive article on Eerie Publications I've seen was published in From The Tomb #s 22 & 23, and was written by Gene M. Broxson.

Back cover of From The Tomb #24 featuring several caustic covers from seamy smarmmeister Myron Fass:

Here's the dirty lowdown on the Eerie Pubs titles listing from that article:

Weird (1966-1981) (69 issues)
Tales From The Crypt (1968) (1 issue)
Tales Of Voodoo (1968-1974) (36 issues)
Terror Tales (1969-1979) (46 issues)
Horror Tales (1969-1979) (46 issues)
Witches Tales (1969-1974) (34 issues)
Tales From The Tomb (1969-1974) (32 issues)
Weird Worlds (1970-1971) (5 issues)
Strange Galaxy (1971) (4 issues)
Weird Vampire Tales (Modern Day Periodicals) (1979-1981) (10 issues)
Terrors Of Dracula (Modern Day Periodicals) (1979-1981) (8 issues)

I can't express how truly great this two part article is by Mr. Broxson if you are an Eerie Pubs fan. Also, it is extremely well printed in fabulous From The Tomb style with lavish, putrid pics. From The Tomb is a spectacular mag from the U.K. by Peter Normanton. It has ceased publication  :'( but issues sometimes rear their hoary heads on evilBay. If you like Horror Comics, you'll love From The Tomb.

I agree. Those Skywald covers are fantastic. And I'm glad Horrorhunter is taking the trouble to post them since I have so few myself.

There's a modern-day mag called Girls and Corpses that seems to fit the bill. I've never checked it out, though.

Thanks Count Z. I've been meaning to check out Girls And Corpses. Hot chicks + horror + humor = recipe for success.  >:D

They sponsored the first Miss Scarolina contest at the first Mad Monster Party in Charlotte in 2012. I heard it was pretty lurid, though, and they weren't involved in the 2013 convention.

Pretty cool thread. About 20+ years ago I had full runs of the Skywalds  a dozen or so Stanleys and a short box of Eerie Pubs. Sold all of them. Mainly because most issues the content was lacking compared to the covers and I needed the $. Wish I still had them.
These I still have and it's crazy how the prices fluctuate so greatly.

I LOVE the Crime mags.

My favorite cover from this title.

Those crime mags are tough, Wicked Lester. I'm still trying to score those two issues of Crime Machine. They are the only two Skywalds I still need. Those two Fass crime mags are very scarce, too. I have one of them and have it in a stack to post tomorrow. Welcome to the thread. You have some awesome mags.  :)

Another Eerie Pubsesque crime mag, Tales Of The Killers Vol.1, #10. There were two issues of this and two issues of Murder Tales. All are scarce.

More sordid Stanleys. Very hard to find these days (which may be a good thing  >:D).  :D

Issues 11-15 of Skywald's Psycho. The Horror-Mood was vibrantly pulsating in these later issues of Psycho. Maybe "Archaic" Al Hewetson is reading these posts from beyond the grave. If so, Al...you done good;)
