I'm very sorry to hear this news.  I never met Mark in person, but I always used to enjoy his posts.
Beautiful moving, shifting colors!

Dear God. I've been away for some time -I've had a lot of personal stuff going on and had to focus on that. But to come back, and the first thing I see is this...

Mark was such a sweet, wonderful guy. It just rips me up to know that he's gone. Sometimes life seems endlessly cruel. I will miss him, his wit, his kindness, his friendliness, his love of monsters and all things strange, and of course his fabulous artwork. I feel so lucky to have several of his drawings up in my room. He even made a drawing based on a scene from a story I wrote. That always meant so much to me, but now? I can't even say.

My condolences go out to his family.

Sorry you had to come back to such bad news. Yes, it was quite a blow to us all.

Surfing through Archie McPhee.com and I saw something that saddened me but also reminded me of Mark. A bigfoot action figure.

Yes, it's mentioned in the Cryptids Collectibles thread that Mark started not long before he passed.
Last week I received a lovely thank you card from Mark's family for my sympathy card. It reminds me of what a big presence he was in these forums. It's hard to imagine not seeing any new posts by him, ever again.

I thought this was so appropriate for Mark. Of course, it doesn't apply just to Facebook. Only a few of our UMA brethren share their FB accounts. Most of us only know each other through these forums and meeting up at conventions. Sadly, I never got to meet Mark in the flesh. Not that it mattered one bit.

I have to echo Moonshadow as far discovering that Mark is with King Kong up in the heavens!

I feel as if I've been punched in the heart.

My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. I won't forget how friendly and fun the big guy was at the UMA and all of that will be sadly missed. The number of posted messages about Mark, says it all.

Count Z, your latest post is spot on.

The Creeper

I have been gone for a while and come back and see this!  He was truly a great man with a great big heart!  I will miss him but know he is still with us in spirit!  I will cherish the drawings he has sent me in the past.  Rest in peace my friend, you will be missed but still loved!
Long live the UMA!

BigShadow

I picture Mark and King Kong wrestling in Heaven, with God as the Referee, in the largest ring you would ever see.  The crowd is going wild over the awesomeness of these two and the respect they show each other.  Every time we hear thunder, Mark is body slamming King Kong on the mat.

The world is a little less exciting without you here.
I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity...

For some reason, just now, I could hear the old bluegrass tune, will the circle be unbroken?

It is with the most PROFOUND and devastating sorrow that I have to report that our beloved Mark passed away last night. He was my friend, my brother, and a kindred spirit, as he was to so many here.

I don't have the details yet. My heart is broken.

and now....even sadder news....
in tears to hear this....

DocTG, this all hit us pretty hard, back when it happened. I had wanted to make a tribute collectible to commemorate U.P.'s passing, and celebrate his life. Unfortunately, I had to move in February, and then my mother passed away in mid-March. This was followed by a period of intense depression for me, and the project fell by the wayside. When I was ready to tackle it again, the momentum had passed. Only seven people showed any interest in the project (which had morphed into a Distinctive Dummies Mego-scale action figure, by that point). It was during this time that the mods and admins decided to trim back the UMA boards.

It's hard to believe he's been gone 7 years.
In his memory I would like to dedicate the following song.
To our fallen Brother somewhere in the Ether, this is for you.
