McDougals House of Horror

Quote from: McDougals House of Horror on June 28, 2013, 02:29:57 PMMFS, your post inspired me to find a copy of the Applegate Treasure on Amazon -- it has been over 50 years since I watched this as a kid, so I'm really looking forward to getting it. I found a "like new" copy for $57, far less than half of Amazon's $140 price for a brand new one.

Got it, watched it, and loved it all over again! The acting was really quite good, as was the story. On one of the extras I was very interested to learn that Franklin W. Dixon, the listed author of all the Hardy Boys books, was just a psuedonym for many different authors who wrote the books. Boy, I read a lot of those books as a kid...

Tommy Kirk, who played Joe Hardy, is appearing next week at the Hollywood Collector's Show so I'm really looking forward to talking "Hardy Boys" with him...

I'm glad you still like it after all these years.  I think it holds up pretty well for a TV-produced kids' version made over half a century ago.

It wasn't until I watched it when it first came out on DVD so many years later that I really appreciated little Carole Ann Campbell who played Iola Morton.  (I think I developed a bit of a crush on her.)  All her expressions and fine gestures are so sweetly girly

She also appeared in the 2nd Hardy Boys serial, "The Mystery of Ghost Farm", but retired from show business not long after that for a private life.  She is hardy mentioned in the Applegate DVD bonus materials.

Here is some info I read about her after my viewing that inspired you to get a copy of the DVD:

And one of her songs on YouTube:

Carole Ann Campbell - The More I See Of You (1962)

After reading about her on the Interwebnet, and finding out that she had died so young, I watched the serial all over again just a couple of days ago - Just in honor of her memory.

I just finished watching MASKMAN , the 11th entry in Toei's Super Sentai series from 1987. Sentai is what Poer Rangers is based on in the US but the original Japanese versions are MUCH better with more dramatic storylines involvong character development, deaths of major and minor characters, etc. The entire series is posted on youtube with english subtitles.
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

My kids got me 'Land of the Lost' series for father's day, just haven't opened it yet - I'm afraid I will cringe at how bad it is and spoil my fond memories.

Just Finishing up 'Hammer' s House of Horrors' series from British tv, late 1970s.

Awesome, Got them in Dec. And watched an episode every night until it was done. My faves are the Voodoo one, the werewolf on the cruise ship, and the headless biker. And of course the two pilot movies, the Night Stalker & the Night Strangler :)

Hammer House Of Horror

All episodes are good. The two best are The Silent Scream and Carpathian Eagle. Those two are as good as anything I've seen, TV or movies.

Also, I love the theme music. Even though this series was made in 1980 it still has the Hammer touch. Awesome material.

Some of the episodes were quite good. Reminded me of The Night Gallery, some I liked and some were just alright, but overall enjoyed it as a series. Been watching One Step Beyond, too, on Netflix streaming :)
