A lot of times, the protos are made up months in advance of the actual production runs. At the time, you just hope the factory can deliver it, on time and within budget. I know several "Star Wars" figures in the modern line that had protos with amazing paint apps, and the actual product wasn't as complex, because they had to eliminate a paint pass to stay within costs. I know in some cases, they'd pair a super-complex figure with an easy, cheap figure, so costs would even out. Since DST isn't churning out dozens of figures a year in this line, the way Hasbro does with "Star Wars," they don't have that option. But, considering the prices on them, especially the deluxes, DST really shouldn't have that great a difference between the protos and the actual production figures. Certainly not on figures like Dr. Jekyll, who clearly has gray hair in the film!

I know what the excuses are, but it still feels like false advertising.

It's not always an excuse, but when they deviate so greatly from prototype to actual product, yeah, it feels like bait 'n' switch. Especially if you're buying online.

OK---Ravenloft is west coast? Where are you Mord? I am in cornfield, ohio, lol. Wondering when my tru will get them in. ???
I'm in Southern California, near L.A. Be careful, even in a big store like mine, they only got one case in (2 of each figure). I walked in, picked up a set for myself and a set for my buddy and now they're gone (they usually don't restock these).

Proto = show piece made by craftsman in USA. Production line = you know where for not much pay. Surprised most come out as good as they do
I don't buy that at all. Look at all the finished Sideshow figures. They look about as good as the protos (some even better). The Neca Headknockers looked almost identical to the pictures they used to preview them. MacFarlane always had fantastic paint apps (and sculpts). I think it has to do with who you commission to do the work.

How? I don't think there's enough being made to army-build them!

I remember looking at the pic on the back of the 8" cards and wishing the toy inside looked as good.

I went to TRU yesterday and as usual nothing at all. I went to the comic book shop in the mall and they had all 4 Munsters and Jekyll and Hyde and Hunchback select versions. My wife told me she had ordered all the figures for Fathers Day from Monsters In Motion earlier this year and thought they were available but I knew they weren't. So it became a pre order. The person she talked to said that the Hot Rod Lily was already out and he could send her one. I knew he was wrong and they sent me another series one Lily. Too much of a pain to return it so I am keeping it for a spare or unless I run across someone who needs one.  I picked up the Hot Rod Lily because as far as I know I would not  be getting one with the pre order. I want to build the staircase for sure amd didn't want to miiss any parts. No sign of the cloth figures and I am really looking forward to the banks. Those show up at the comic shop sometimes if not EBay here I come.

In some ways I am relieved this is the widning down period for these. I get tired of having a nervous breakdown every year hoping I can find them without resorting to ebay, lol.

Funny, I feel the exact same way. I don't rest until I have them in my grubby paws. Now I can sleep, finally.

My "Uncle Gilbert" has shipped!   I think I can use the stairs part as a base for him?  :)

I'm pretty sure he comes with a separate base.

Yeah, he has one of those little "bases" you stick on one foot, but I thought maybe I could stand him on that lower staircase part. Don't know if it will work?
