I LOVE THIS MASK! I shutter to think at what it costs though...

That mask is not as expensive as you might think, it can usually be had for between $100-$150.  The highest I have ever paid for a DP Skull was $150 and that was a '70s Vermillion, which is a lot rarer.  A glow Skull should be relativly easy to find (it just sometimes takes a while to wait on a really nice one to turn up, like the beauty that Ray got; congrats Ray!!)

The Phantom Creep

Great score on the Lunch Box Dave!

A Spider Baby insert? Wonder how much it was? It's not that nice of a poster, but paper on that title is SO hard to find.

Yes BK, Joe lived very close to me in Woodbury NY back in the 60's. I went to elementary school with his twin daughters. They used to go door to door in the neighborhood selling back issues of   Joe's SICK magazine. Got most of my collection from them! I actually saw Jack Kirby in Joe's studio one day.

How cool, thanks for sharing that!  Kirby is probably my all time favorite.

Yeah, it was actually kind of embarrasing. I must have been about 9 or 10 and was hanging out w/ my friend Tommy who lived right next door to Joe Simon. He told me he had special permission to help himself to SICK magazine back issues in the Simon's garage. I walked over there w/him and as he was loading up his arms, the Simon twin daughters suddenly appeared and the jig was up. Turns out he had no such special permission after all and i was now guilty by association! We were both marched into Joe's studio. I was not all that into comics yet and wondered why there were all these drawings of Captain America, Sub Mariner, etc adorning the walls . I was really humiliated because my brother was good friends with both of Joe's older sons. Joe was really sweet and only lightly reprimanded us. ["Now, boys...y'know it's not good to steal, right?..."] Instead of squealing on my friend i didn't try to profess my innocence and took comfort in the fact that as soon as we were outta there i'd kick Tommy's ass but good! The other thing that struck me in Joe's office was the heavy guy next to him chomping on his cigar and laughing as he watched us squirm. Wasn't until a year or so later when i seriously got into comics that i was reading an artist bio in the back of a Marvel comic and realized the guy with the cigar was Jack Kirby! I thought: GREAT! Now one of my favorite artists thinks i'm a schmuck...

What a great story!

Kirby's a major art hero for me.  I got to meet him a few times at the San Diego comic con -- and (along with a gazillion other comics pros) attend a surprise birthday party thrown in his honor.  At one SD con ('80-something), I walked into the after-convention party, and right in front of me were Kirby and Stan Lee, standing there chatting.  I stood there dumbstruck for the longest time, as the creators of my favorite comics exchanged pleasantries, shook hands and then parted.  Took me a while to pick my jaw up off the floor.

Found this War of the Worlds book in the Bargain Books section at Borders last weekend.

Not only is it a cool book but it includes a 72 minute CD featuring the entire original radio broadcast from 1938.  I had never listened to it in its entirety and got to yesterday for the first time.  Very cool!  Also included is a 1940 radio interview with Orson and H.G. Wells.

Book and CD:  $2.99.  They have another five or six copies if anyone is interested, I can pick one up for you and ship it to you for my cost.  Let me know.

I don't mind. I dropped $85 on it. It's got the thermos, too. I'm not sure if that's a good price or not, but it seemed fair in my limited experience for the condition. Especially at a con, where you'd think the prices would normally be higher.

I didn't think there was a heck of a lot else. Someone had 1/2 sheets for "The Walking Dead" and "Isle Of The Dead" and an insert for "Spider Baby", but I didn't even bother to ask about prices since I knew it'd be too high for me. There were Creature and Frankenstein soakies, a King Kong bank, some 3 3/4" Remcos (all from the same guy as my lunchbox), a couple Megos here and there and one vendor had a full set of vintage EC comic horror host masks. Can't remember much else, off hand.

You did fine on the box, con or no. The condition looks very good, and that's hard to judge on ebay. And now, you got it!

Thanks John,
I stumbled upon Jimmy Simon [Joe's son] on the internet not long ago and we were going back and forth emailing each other about the old neighborhood for a while. This was soon followed by an email from Joe himself! He [Jimmy] was a member of my brother's Zacherley club. [they were all like 10 years older than me, so i wasn't a part of it] They would have meetings after every show at the clubhouse in our backyard. Jimmy didn't go into great detail, but eluded to lots of strange ritualistic stuff going on there... Remind me sometime to tell you about my Bro's Zacherley Clubhouse and a related incident that took place involving the Jones family [as in Jones Beach] crypt which had just been ransacked by a real life graverobber. My bro, his then girlfriend [now his wife] and my cousin used to frequent this particular graveyard and after seeing the crypt door smashed in, went inside...AT NIGHT! All kinds of drama followed with detectives pounding on our door, etc. I told Freddie Poe and Arnie the whole story at the last Chiller and thought their jaws would hit the floor! Thinking back, this is what probably gave me the idea to write Grave Robbing Tonight for Zach...how weird is it that he's the common denominator and inspiration for all of this!

Hopefully these were not the same people.   ;D

Come on Gasport don't hold back, relate the sorid details.  There's nothing like childhood memories involving Crypts, and grave robbing circumstances are a unique plus.  Quit holding out, man.
