Seems like those were originally around $100...

They were, and they were exclusive to Spencer's Gifts (if memory serves) and not available wholesale to any other outfit.

My dad took me out for an early Birthday shopping trip to Hobby Town (my birthday is Tuesday and both of us would be working then.) We had breakfast at IHOP, went to Hobby Town and then had lunch at Long John Silver's and had a great time. My Dad is the main reason I got into collecting and model building and he still  builds model railroads, RC cars and the occasional WW2 tank. I got a nice batch of kits including the coveted new Gorgo!
Crazy am I? We'll see if I'm crazy or not!

Monolith

RedKing- nice selection! I have a Gorgo on the way, looking forward to putting it together. Have fun modelling!

Nice.

I've replaced all of those on DVD, but I still have the tapes.  They are just too pretty to throw away!

The Universal horror DVDs have nothing on the VHS when it comes to the box art!  :)

The artwork is phenomenal and definitely deserves to be resurrected.  Perhaps on the next Blu-Ray release...     :)

Those are beautiful! How much did they set you back?

Believe it or not; those vhs boxes have become collectible. Kind of like the 8mm boxes of the 60's. There appears to be an entire "hipster" style movement to make "vhs tapes vs. dvds" the equivalent of "vinyl records vs. cds". Get em while they are cheap I guess, lol.

Those VHS tapes are gorgeous Auro of Foreboding! I've heard of the whole "VHS vs DVD" movement and sort of understand it. I do sometimes enjoy watching old pan and scan well worn TV prints of movies just for the nostalgia-it reminds me of being a kid staying up to all hours of the night to catch these flicks on TV.

Yeah it really was my Dad that started me out collecting stuff and building kits and watching monster movies. Some of my earliest and best monsterkid memories of of Pop taking me to the drive-in or theater to see what was then (late 70s) latest monster flicks (Kong 76, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, the late 70s Godzilla releases, the Amicus/AIP Burroughs Pellucider flicks) and going to Hobby shops. He's going to be 64 in November and is finally retiring this summer, and he's already planning a big model railroad layout he is going to build after!

The only problem is that while vinyl records sound better than dvds, the same thing can't be said about vhs vs. dvds.
