Haunted hearse

We have some talented people on this site.  I mentioned in another thread regarding the Lincoln monster, that someone should create a fantasy package for a fasion doll, patterned after the graphics for a monster series, so there could be an "official" victim doll.
What ever happened to my Transylvania Twist?

That WOULD be very cool. ;D

Was this the one?

So, this victim is actually for sale. Kind of amazing that one would come up for sale right now. What a time for monster toys! Any speculation on the height this one will reach now that the love auction has been posted (yes, it is listed pretty well, not hidden).

edited for grammar. D'oh!

I get why collectors want this doll, but $531.00 for what is essentially a chewed-up Dawn doll is just nuts.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, we all collect something that people think we're nuts for purchasing. Especially the "Muggles".  Maybe among our own kind we can remind ourselves of that and no, I ain't bidding, this is just my feelings on that judgemental tone. If spending 5 bills on this makes somebody happy, so be it. It makes more sense to me than gambling and other "grown up" pursuits.

This is one of those things that's just beyond the casual collector. I'm a amazed that it actually exists, especially given the Aurora kerfluffel with it's Victim. Think of all the cross-over audience for these figures. It's part of what drove the boxed set so high, what drove some of the first Lincoln figures out of the wood work so high - a decade ago some ome of the first well identified Mummy, Frankenstein's Monster, and Wolf Man sold for over a grand EACH. Loose. And used. - Monster fans (generally) love 'em, Mego and Mego-Like collectors love 'em, and lovers of obscure, rare, oddball, and knock of toys love 'em.

I get why these prices, beyond the simple economics, aren't for most people. It's a matter of taste. In this example, your taste for collecting. Had I the money, I'd buy it, as all those categories above speak to my tastes. I'm sure there are plenty of monster collectors wealthy enough to purchase this for 2K who wouldn't buy it for $200 (other than to turn a profit), but most of the reason I come here to the UMA, and have for so long, is to celebrate monsters. I can find people bitching about prices in line at the grocery store or gas pump. That's a big part of the reason I shop at odd hours. I'm tired of the cranks.

Amen, it's so thick, it almost feels like this is somehow personal. Collecting is supposed to be fun.

Hey, this is from the Palitoy / Plaid Stallions collection, Brian H., one of the guys beings the Mego mpMusum and the owner of the amazing Tomland Famous Monsters of Legend series two Glow in the Dark figures! He put up the incredible Tomland Monsters website http://tomlandmonsters.com/ and shared photos and info of monster toys that no one I know had ever seen. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the seller of that Lincoln set looked it up on Brian's site http://lincolnmonsters.com/. That's how I found out there was a Victim figure. http://www.plaidstallions.com/racktoys/lincolnvictim.html

He's even publishing a book with tons of this sort of stuff in it! If the sale of this figure contributes to that, I hope it sells for huge money. I'm chomping at the bit for Brian's book. Between that and Kirk Hammett's absolute masterpiece, it's a very good year for monster toy information!

^Amen! Brian is good people. He's given a lot to the hobby, and keeps on giving.

Perhaps I should expand on my previous post: I understand why collectors want this doll, but given it's overall rough condition, the current bidding is higher than I would've expected. Put the pitchforks and torches away, guys. I'm expressing an opinion, same as you.

I don't mean that George is a crank, just the general negative attitude that is so easily accessed (so often unbidden) in society, but here on the UMA especially as of late. There were a number of posts about negative attitudes here in the last several months. The group used to have a more open tone to it, and celebrated monster toys and collecting 'em, whatever the bent. Now, quite often, it's people bagging on a purchase, or worse yet, the purchaser. That's part of why if find it hard to post many things, I can find plenty of people willing to display disdain and or ignorance of my passions in my physical surroundings. I feel stupid when I seek them out online. I mean, sure, everyone has opinions, and a lot of people have grudges, but by and large I just wanna celebrate the things I like and ignore the things I don't (skipping the Ida of societal issues which require my participation). I've never understood why some people love to stand in a crowd yelling "I hate crowds".

I digress, back to the regularly scheduled Victim!

Expressing an opinion on this auction has nothing to do with grudges or a negative attitude on my part regarding your purchases. How you choose to spend your money is completely your business and none of mine. My *only* point was about the condition of the toy.

It looks like FRANKENSTEIN had his way with this example...

I've bought so much stuff that people thought was crap, I don't care what people think about it.  There are lots of us Monster collectors who come to this website late, but, have lots of experience buying what many would consider crap.
If you want to view Paradise, simply look around and view it.
