  Us (2019) -
Jordan Peele certainty has an authentic affection and feel for horror. Many scenes have a genuine creepiness missing from today's by-the-numbers scarefests. That said, this film wastes a great setup with a pretentious, arthouse finale. Ill give it a second viewing, out of respect for the brilliant craftsmanship of the director. Though, I don't think it'll change my mind.

Exactly. I don't get it. I wish some of these avant-gardists would do some explanatory commentaries. I guess that wouldn't be artsy enough. I did like the amusement park scenes and beach scenes. The "dopplegangers in the driveway" bit was scary as hell.

Battleship (2012)

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. And yet strangely I found it entertaining.  ???

Ok, Mike, here's one theory. The lead character didn't realize she was one of "them" , until she experienced the place of her conversion. Her maternal instincts stubbornly fought her reality. If anyone has other insights, let us know. It reminded me of an Afro-centric "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers".

The first part I got, but what's with the little evil smile and why is she happy that her son "turned" (or was he always one)? What about the rest of the family?

  SPOILERS

Maybe the "evil smile" is her acceptance o f being one of "them". In that case, she would surely welcome her son to the fold. As for the rest of the family...they are eventually doomed.

A Nightmare of Elm St.-2010
With all the diehard, purists of Nightmare on Elm Street film(s). I will go on record and say: I really like the remake. This remake is dark and creepy and Jackie Earle Haley's performance is macabre and sinister as all heck.

The fact there is a niche of fans who enjoy this 2010 version more than the original. I will also say that this version is not a shot-for-shot ripoff of the original.
There are subtle differences in this film compared to the original. Which makes the 2010 Nightmare of Elms St., it s own entity. ⚰

Funny, I would have called you out on this when the film first came out. I thought of it in the same light as Vince Vaughn in the frame by frame "Psycho" remake. Recently, it started making the rounds on HBO. I watched it, and enjoyed it. That couldn't be right, so I watched it again. It's really good. I'm a sucker for a film with a prominent diner scene. This one starts with an absolutely brilliant scene in a Springfield diner. Dare I say, some parts actually improved on the original. I don't think Jackie Earle Haley will ever be as memorable as Robert Englund, but he's a lot creepier (and less jokey).

Jackie Earl Haley, definitely less with the jokes.

Monsters For Sale

Night of the Big Heat, 1967 - During a a typical cold November in the UK, the small Island of Fera is suffering from sweltering heat and some of its residents are disappearing mysteriously - evidently victims of spontaneous combustion.

Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing

OK little time-waster that was released in 1971 to the U.S. market under the better title Island of the Burning Damned.
