The Shallows (2016)

Now that was a really good Shark film. Unlike that awful, crap-fest of a film, The Meg.

I've only seen the 1937 version.

I don't think I have that. I have TCM "On Demand". Maybe it's on there? It is! (Although they show the 1937 poster.)

The Minotaur (1960), good sword & sorcery flick with a cool monster, but you don't see it until almost the end of the movie.

7 Faces of Dr. Lao, 1964 - Strange Chinese man puts on a one-man circus for an old western town.

Tony Randall, Barbara Eden and Arthur O'Connell.

Fun, George Pal production with lots of stop-action effects.  I gotta love any old movie that uses veteran character actors like John Qualen.

First saw this during a particularly hot drought.  The picture came to a climax with a rain-making scene that solved their monster problems and washed away a lot of the towns people's concerns over their water supply.  When I exited back out into what I was sure would be the relentless heat, I discovered that there was a driving rain bringing welcome relief.

The movie has alwys seemed slightly magical to me after that.

There is something magical about this movie. I saw it for the first time a few years ago and it has stuck with me ever since. I love Tony Randall and this really proved his talents. Plus the great music and the wonderful last line...

"Mike, the whole world is a circus if you look at it the right way. Every time you pick up a handful of dust, and see not the dust, but a mystery, a marvel, there in your hand, every time you stop and think, "I'm alive, and being alive is fantastic!" Every time such a thing happens, Mike, you are part of the Circus of Dr. Lao."
"....flying saucers? You mean the kind from up there?"
