Mord

Knock, Knock - Eli Roth tries to get Keanu to act. He fails, but still comes up with a pretty good film. The girls are smoking hot and it features all the cool touches that Roth is known for (violence, sex, blood and fun).

Misfits (2009-2013)~I've been watching this off and on (on Hulu) for awhile now and finished the series today.  A storm endows individuals with powers, some welcomed, some unwelcomed in a series that turns superhero conventions on its head.  Often rude and crude and a lot of fun.

Star Trek     : The Motion Picture. 1979
Star Trek  II : The Wrath of Khan, 1982
Star Trek III : The Search For Spock, 1984
Star Trek IV : The Voyage Home, 1986
Star Trek V  : The Final Frontier, 1989
Star Trek VI : The Undiscovered Country, 1991

I know, these aren't great sci-fi.  They tend to sci-fi opera with overblown music and plots that threaten whole worlds.

Still, it was fun to revisit familiar faces and character relationships.

I picked up the 6-disc Blu-Ray set for less than $20 and had to take them out for a spin.  Can't say I was all that impressed by image improvement - but all the previous bonus features were carried over.  The whole business fits inside the width of a single standard 14mm DVD case.

The Strange World of Planet X, 1958 - Experiments in the properties of magnetism have unanticipated and far-ranging effects.

Forest Tucker and an all English cast.

One of a trio of low budget English sci-fi films starring Forest Tucker made in the late '50's.  The other two were "The Trollenberg Terror" and "The Abominable Snowman"

The UK DVD's release in 2006 & 2010 are incorrectly labeled "4:3" aspect ratio.  The are actually in the movie's 1.75:1 theatrical ratio.  (Look like they could even be closer to 1.66:1.)

Decent enough image and sound.  Fun to see all the world-threatening drama discussed quietly in the flat matter-or-fact English tones.  U.S. movies of the time seem so overboard in all respects compared to what the Brits were doing.

AKA: "Cosmic Monsters" (In the U.S.)

The Return of Dracula, 1958 - Cousin Bellac comes to visit from the Old World - only it's not Cousin Bellac.  The Mayberry's (yes, that's the family name) will never be the same again.

Francis Lederer, Norma Eberhardt and Ray Strickland.

Star Francis Lederer was born in Czechoslovakia in 1899 and has the perfect demeanor and natural accent to play our favorite vampire.

Love the little period touches from this Gramercy Films movie.  Makes liberal use of the caves in Bronson Canyon and Griffith Park.  Has all-too-brief glimpses at what 1950's Halloween parties really looked like.  Uses a neat color image insert to emphasize what they hoped the audience would find particularly gruesome.

The Blu-Ray looks great but, being an Olive release, has no extras.

Fun.

Mord

Look Away (2019) -  Shy, mousey girl (think "Carrie") gets bullied at school and at home. She notices that her mirror image isn't in sinc with her movements. After a horrible prom experience, she starts listening to vengeful advice from her doppelganger. Death starts to happen at an alarming rate. I liked this one. The lead actress, India Eisley, is cute as a bug and does a few nude scenes (even brief full frontal). I must admit, I felt guilt over my erection since she looks 16. I left behind my Catholic guilt when I found out she was 25.
