Monsters For Sale

#15945
Burnt Offerings, 1976 - Family rents an old house that seems to be rejuvenating itself.

They get a terrific rate on the huge, old house - with one condition.  They must leave 3 meals a day outside the door of the old woman who never leaves her upstairs bedroom.

Karen Black and Oliver Reed with a young son and their aunt (Bette Davis) rent the house from siblings Eileen Heckert and Burgess Meredith.

Talky, plays a bit like a made-for-TV movie, but with more intense situations.

Not bad.  (Never quite understood the title.)

Monsters For Sale

#15947
Robot & Frank, 2012 - In what appears to be the very near future, an older man with diminished mental acuity is given a robotic helper.

Frank (Frank Langella) has periods of lucidity laced with increasing instances of forgetfulness.  His librarian friend (Susan Sarandon) is struggling through the transformation of her library to an all digital format.  The printed word has gone out of fashion and is being systematically abandoned.

Treads very lightly on the future aspect.  Takes place in the country, so very few references.

I don't want to give any great detail on this one.  It has a very interesting reveal at the end.

Plays like a comedic drama.  Has touching elements.

I liked it.

I even tried the Director Commentary, but the Director is evidently elderly and his memory is vague and his speech is halting and disjointed.

The director was Robert Fuest (the Dr. Phibes films). Died in 2012 at 84.

All of Dan Curtis' movies look like TV movies. (Especially the TV movies.)

I really liked Lake of Dracula and the other 2 films in that set.

I agree Creepy. Totally dig these films. If you're into 70s Gothic horror and/or Toho films, I highly recommend the Bloodthirsty Trilogy set.
