Better Watch Out, 2016 - The house is decorated with lights and Christmas carols are playing.  Thirteen year old Luke is left alone with eighteen year old Ashley, the babysitter he has a major crush on.  Strange shadows and sounds come from outside.  The phone rings repeatedly but the caller doesn't speak.  Then a brick bearing a terrifying message is thrown through a window.

Does this all sound familiar?  It sure did to me.  My expectations were pretty low.  But, I was desperate for a horror movie to cleanse my palate of the annoyingly cloying Christmas fare that spoils most Decembers.  So I took a shot and purchased the Blu-Ray when the price dropped really low.

What a great surprise this little gem was!  The plot takes several very effective unexpected turns.  The low budget doesn't call attention to itself.

The mostly Australian cast did a beautiful job adopting American accents.  (Why are they so good at that?)  The lead actor, Levi Miller, who plays Luke delivers a dynamite performance.  The Luke character reminds me so much of another horror role - Can you guess which one?

Did anyone else like this movie as much as I did?

I saw this and really liked it. I'm a bit partial to holiday horror. The film was pretty fun all the way through. I would recommend this as enthusiastically as Adam. Lots of fun twists throughout. I don't know who he reminds me of...Damien, a young Norman Bates? Another film with a similar plot was "Emelie". It's another babysitter thriller, though, the babysitter is definitely not as pleasant as the one in "Better Watch Out".

The TV Norman Bates is the one I was thinking of.  The mood swings were a bit chilling.

I can definitely see the comparison.

zombiehorror

Silent Madness~Straight forward slasher from 1984 originally shot in 3D, nothing spectacular

Frankenstein:The True Story (1973)~I recall enjoying this one when I saw it as a kid.  I must have caught it on a rerun in the late 70' s but it was still shown as a two part event.  Still holds up well; there is one bit of ridiculousness but then again it's a tale of doctors bringing a dead man (and woman) back to life.

"....flying saucers? You mean the kind from up there?"

The Picture Of Dorian Gray(1945)
The Vampire(1957)
Curse Of the Doll People(1958)
DARK SHADOWS:

David Collins: "Dead people dont just get up and walk around.."

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

zombiehorror

The Shape of Water (2017)~Wishy-washy...or is it fishy-washy...romantic fairytale; like a dramatic reboot of Splash.  Beautifully shot but one would expect nothing less from Del Toro and as always, he loves to mix his fantasy with a tinge of horror.

London After Midnight-1927 (Finally!)

Was it what you hoped - or a disappointment?
