Human characters?  No.  They may "tweak" that with Godzilla 2 (planned for 2018) though and King Kong vs. Godzilla (planned for 2020).  Just what was Monarch doing during the events of Godzilla?  Seems that whole incident would be right up their alley; of course if there had been no monster incidents since the 70's it is very likely Monarch was shutdown at some point.
