Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde(1931)

Wow! This particular Hyde film is a true clsssic, from start to finish. Fredric
March's perormance, outstanding. I was amazed how technical the special effects
were conveyed through out the film. Not to mention, how risque' Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde was as a 1931 film.

Phantom of 42nd Street (1945) Nice PRC mystery starring Dave O'Brien (The Devil Bat, several East Side Kids movies). Not really any horror elements, but still fun.

House of the WolfMan (2009) I LOVED this movie, even though several of the actors were a little stiff (including Ron Chaney), the black and white photography, story and especially the monsters were fantastic! The only disappointment is the somehwat cliffhanger of an ending-hopefully a sequel is forthcoming, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be. Cheryl Rhods who plays the dark haired girl is gorgeous and the brief scene of her in vintage lingerie inspired wolfish reactions of a different kind! There were also some great fan touches such as the cane from the WolfMan and the mummified Creature hand and a dead Pretorius homonculi n a bottle in a lab during the Franky/WolfMan battle. The musical score incorporates some classic universal cues and is otherwise in the style of 40s Universal scores. Great great stuff!!

- The Vanishing on 7th Street

It had a promising premise, but the ending was lacking.
"For one who has lived but a single lifetime, you are a wise man ...Van Helsing."
"I shall awaken memories of love and crime and death..."

BOGGY CREEK (2010) -

My mother-in-law brought over a burned copy of this movie, claiming it was "just like the original - you know, a bad B-movie."  In my hairy opinion, it has absolutely nothing in common with the classic THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK (1972).  Sure, TLOBC was a B (maybe even a C) movie, but it was done in a realistic, documentary style.  The first hour of this new one was excruciatingly slow, and I never really liked any of the characters that much.  When it finally picked up, it was done in the modern, shaky, in-your-face style, with split-second cuts & sensory overload.  The scenery is beautiful, though.

Maybe I'm a little harsh or even a movie snob  :D, but this is just my opinion.

Daigoro vs Goliath (1972) rare kaiju movie never released in the US. it was a co-production between Toho and Tsuburaya Productions (Ultraman) to celebrate Tsuburaya Pro's 10th anniversary. Daigoro is a friendly half grown monster that defends Japan against Goliath, a nasty horned space monster. The monster suits are rubbery but the miniatures and matte work are fantastic.
