Fiend Without a Face

Superb!  I'm not a blind loyalist to 50's B movies (or 30 and 40's era horror films for that matter) more often than not, if something doesn't float my boat I have no problem calling a film out, even if it's considered a classic or not.  But this film, I actually liked, and I liked it alot.  Great stuff!  I'm going to be picking up the Criterion release eventually  :)

Moonshadow

"The Fury" -1978
This was the second time I saw this film; the first time was on network TV, just a few years after it came out. Talk about a pointless film. There was potential here, what with the psychic kids, the government agency trying to control them, and Kirk Douglas' unrelenting search for his son. But it all sort of falls apart and the ending is just laughably bad.

"The Black Scorpion" -1957

I never caught this 50s big bug flick before. Not bad -it's no "Them", but pretty entertaining. Of course one of the big draws is to see the stop motion work by Willis O'Brien, which is pretty good, although a little rough looking. His scorpions look much better than the goofy, drooling full-scale scorpion head that pops up in just about every other scene.

Yes, the remake. My first time seeing this and I have to say I was impressed. It was creepy, respectful to the source material and fun to watch. It wasn't perfect, but one of the remakes I will add to my list of enjoying. Geoffery Rush's Price character was a great homage to Vincent in the original. They added new twists but kept the framework intact.

The thing I didn't like about it: The CG ghosts at the end. Didn't look that creepy IMO.

BTW, how's is the sequel, Return to House on Haunted Hill? (I think I may know that answer!)
"For one who has lived but a single lifetime, you are a wise man ...Van Helsing."
"I shall awaken memories of love and crime and death..."

The Incredible Melting Man (1977)
Spider Baby (1968)
Trilogy of Terror (1975)
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Couldn't agree with you more, it was not a remake as much as a re-immagining of the concept and amazingly they got it right.
And yes - the dark Evil at the end was not as effective as everything else in the film.

I don't think there's any DVD copy available for now. That's why I keep my VHS copy preciously.

If you can't wait,  it's on You Tube in 8 chapters.
