Fiend Without a Face

Superb!  I'm not a blind loyalist to 50's B movies (or 30 and 40's era horror films for that matter) more often than not, if something doesn't float my boat I have no problem calling a film out, even if it's considered a classic or not.  But this film, I actually liked, and I liked it alot.  Great stuff!  I'm going to be picking up the Criterion release eventually  :)

I'm with ya 100000% KG. I remember seeing this as a MonsterTot and having the it scare the crap out of me. When I saw it years later I expected the reaction I usually got.........wondering what it was I found so scary as a kid. Not this one. Those little brain-beings still give me the creeps!! And the movie is just flat-out cool!!

"The Fury" -1978
This was the second time I saw this film; the first time was on network TV, just a few years after it came out. Talk about a pointless film. There was potential here, what with the psychic kids, the government agency trying to control them, and Kirk Douglas' unrelenting search for his son. But it all sort of falls apart and the ending is just laughably bad.

Agreed.........in fact I didn't make it to the end.

Quote"The Black Scorpion" -1957

I never caught this 50s big bug flick before. Not bad -it's no "Them", but pretty entertaining. Of course one of the big draws is to see the stop motion work by Willis O'Brien, which is pretty good, although a little rough looking. His scorpions look much better than the goofy, drooling full-scale scorpion head that pops up in just about every other scene.

This is a new one to me, and I'm an enormous fan of atomic creature flicks. Thanks Karen, I'm off to Netflix!!

Phantom Stranger

"The Sorcerers Apprentice" (2010)
                                   -Nicolas Cage

Plot: IMDB:
Centuries old Master sorcerer Balthazar Blake recruits a seemingly everyday guy in his mission to defend New York City from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath.

Phantom's Review: Like most of the recent Nic Cage movies, this one was here and gone in a moments flash, so my expectations  were very, very low but too my complete surprise, this was actually a very entertaining movie. Obviously made to cash in on the popularity of the "Harry Potter" franchise, it was still a fun film filled with good FX ,a good story, likable characters and good villains. I liked it.

The last couple of weeks I've watched:
"Blade: Trinity" (2004): lots of action, but not much story or plot to hold it together.
"Terminator 2: Judgement Day" (1991): easily the best film in the Terminator series. Great FX, exciting story.
"Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" (2003): mildly entertaining but very thin plot.
"Terminator: Salvation" (2009): pretty good. It has the virtue of being way better than the previous film ;)
"It Came From Beneath the Sea" (1955): Harryhausen's giant octopus still makes for great viewing.

Bram Stoker's Dracula-my favorite version of the Dracula story, although it's really more of a beauty and the beast story.  Gary Oldman makes a fantastic Dracula, only second to Bela in my book.  I love the horror aspects of the vampires in this film, while I also love the more scientific and ultimately more horrific vampires featured in Blade 2, and in Del toro's The Strain trilogy.
