I LOVE the Frankenstein pieces Mark! I also have a soft spot for Black Adam! Shazam has always been one of my favorite comics! And Mike, that Karloff painting is GORGEOUS!!! One day I am going to have to bother you for a commissioned piece! Here is my latest effort. This is a piece I call "Symphony of Horror". Screen prints of this piece will be available at the Mad Monster Party convention coming up in March here in Charlotte. There are 2 versions of it, the normal one is the first one which is the English version. I also did a sepia toned variant that is all in German. The German version will be limited only to the convention but the standard version will be available through my website (once I finally have the website finished that is!) Hope you like it! Keep the awesome art flowin' guys! This thread NEVER fails to inspire the hell out of me!!!

That's funny Illoman: I tried the same reference pict of ol' Frankenmonster recently in a b/w drawing.
And it isn't one easy to capture! You were much more sucessful compared to my puny attempt!

Doesn't look puny to me.  It looks fantastic as well.  Love the shading and tones but I have always been a fan of B&W

Illoman

Greg, that Nosferatu is awesome!! Really like the design elements of it.

Rainer, I like your Franky very much! I think you succeeded with it! It is a difficult photo to work from.

Thank you both for your comments.

Hey everyone!

Just put the finishing touches on the second piece in my German Horror Films series following up the Nosferatu piece I posted the other night. This one is based on The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari! This film has always been one of my favorites and a MAJOR inspiration for me. The expressionist art direction in it is absolutely gorgeous and if you have never seen it I HIGHLY recommend it! A great piece of early cinema! So here it is, "Das Cabinet"...

Like on the last one, there is an English version and a limited German variant that will be available at the Mad Monster Party in March! My last and final piece in this tryptic of classic German horror posters will be Fritz Lang's sci-fi classic Metropolis! Another one of my favorites!

Question for all you artists - I've had some chalk pastels for about 20 years, but have never used them until today.  Kinda messy  ;D - anyway, is it okay to spray the finished rendering with some kind of protective coating?  If so, what works the best?  What would you all suggest?  Also, if anyone has any pointers relating to this medium, I'd be appreciative to hear them.
THANKS, Gang!.

I used to work with pastels a LOT but I haven't in years! They are a lot of fun but are kinda messy. You can spray the finished piece with any sort of artist fixative spray. Any craft or art store should have a few to choose from. Some of them will darken the image slightly so be aware of that when you are working, how much it darkens depends a lot on the spray and the colors of pastel you are using, but the effect is usually fairly negligible. They also sell these things call blending sticks. They look like thick double ended pencils made of out linen. They work good for blending in tighter areas where your fingers may not be able to get into without smudging surround areas. Other than that it is a pretty loose medium thats pretty forgiving. I do use them still a lot on model kids for shading and blending. You can take some sandpaper to a pastel stick and turn it to powder, then micro-mark sells these ltitle pom-pom brushes that you can use to pick up the powder and working it onto the model kit's surface and then just use a soft bristled paintbrush to blend it out. Works good but some colors disappear on kits when you seal it. especially if you are putting grey on black. Forget it! One spritz of dull-coat and it's gone! But most dark colors on light work really well so I shade with them a lot.
