Yes Sean - I was amazed at how "even" she made the teeth.  She drew several skulls in pencil first, erasing them till the paper tore because she couldn't "get it right".  She finally damn near nailed the shape and I told her, " Maybe you should paint this one. "   She usually doesn't draw a lot, but she tried & tried, especially the skull.  The Frank, she drew the first time and was happy with it.

And check this out - I showed her the pics I posted here, and read the (very kind) posts to her that everyone left.  She says, " They can buy them for 5 dollars each, if they want. "   ;D
I reminded her that " Hey, I thought these were for ME! "
THAT kinda flabbergasted her for a second, then she said, " Well, I meant I could make some more! ", followed by a sweet, and slightly guilty looking smile!!

Precious stuff, Mark.  They are priceless.

The Andy portrait is GREAT!  Your best yet.

Gotta watch Griffith in No Time for Sergeants -- it's waiting for me on the DVR....

Thanks a lot, Terry, I appreciate your comment. I painted it a bit looser than I usually do, and am pleased with the way it turned out.

Mike, is there a name for the style you use to paint?  These figures look like they're images right out of a 50's Boy's Life mag.

I'll be honest with you, probably not! LOL!! I do love and appreciate pulp illustration, 50's and 60's illustration, and I think my style reflects my appreciation of those styles. The so-called Golden Age of Illustration was indeed the golden age of art as far as I'm concerned. Those guys used fine art to sell products, and were derided somewhat for it by the art community. I still think those guys, Sundblom, Rockwell, Schaeffer, Parrish, Wyeth were the god of art.

Sean, I really appreciate you picking up on that!!

Yes, Mike.... that's exactly where I was trying to go with my comment.  You have captured that style, no doubt.  I love it.

Okay, here's on oldie!! When I was in college, I started sculpting various comic characters. I remember doing Cheech Wizard, Cerebus, etc...
Most of them I gave away to friends, but this guy I kept for myself. He's about thirty years old now, and I had a blast sculpting him.

My wife and I when we were dating, would hit the local head shop which was close to a drive in theater, get some Fat Freddie's Cat comix and head to the movies!!

You TOTALLY nailed Fat Freddy's cat...how about that Cheech?

Mike, I agree with your allusions to the golden age of illustration. Your style shows it well. Being the chair of the illustration program at The Art Institute of Atlanta, I immerse myself in that rich history. There are some great sets on Flickr for anyone interested in "mid-century" imagery. Love the Andy. Keep up the great work.
