Hey Nicole and Nekro, I've got a pair of neato Coffin Joe items to show you.  I don't want to hijack this thread, so I will start a new one in the movie memorabilia section.

How come nobody ever mentions "Godzilla VS Hedorah" aka "Godzilla VS the Smog Monster"? That is one of my favorite Godzilla flicks. I didn't see anyone mention "The Eye" either. Hollywood is doing a remake of "The Eye", which I will boycott because I love the Chinese version so much & Hollywood is... Hollywood. I'm not sure if anybody would consider "Ichi The Killer" a horror film, but it has some wild stuff in it!
Lastly, I don't care what my brothers say, "Tarantula" was a great movie. I also LOVE "Kingdom Of The Spiders"! What could be better than seeing thousands of spiders swarming people or William Shatner being bitten on the face by, like, 50 tarantulas?
Spiders crawling over people is what made me want to watch "This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse" thanks to the commercial I saw on IFC!  8)

I never liked Godzilla vs Hedorah that much until I saw the DVD.  Seeing it complete, subtitled, in its original aspect ratio gave me a new appreciation for it.  It really has a great vibe and visual style.

Tarantula is probably my favorite giant bug movie. THEM! is a more serious and tightly produced film, but Tarantula is more fun.  Both THEM! and Tarantula stand head and shoulders above the pack.

I've got The Eye on DVD.  It's not bad, but I don't like it as much as recent Asian horror hits like Ringu or Ju-on.  I like Takashi Miike very much.  I've only seen a handful of his films, but I've liked every one.  I would consider Ichi a quasi-horror film, maybe action-horror.  I was very impressed with Ichi.  I've been meaning to watch that again.

Miike is not always good, but he's pretty much always interesting. Visitor Q and City of Lost Souls being two of my favorites. Zebraman was good, but not as good as I'd hoped for.I really need to see "The Great Yokai War" (which a buddy of mine had a small part in) and his remake of Django looks crazy. Never cared much for two popular Miike films, the aforementioned Ichi and also Fudoh. Always thought both were overrated.

I remember "The Eye" as being pretty boring right up until the "Why are you sitting in my chair?" scene which scared the life outta me. Didn't care for the finale either, but unlike a lot of people, I really enjoyed both sequels more than the original. Each one seemed to offer more than the same old asian horror crap that's being regurgitated ad nasuem these days. There was a time I loved Asian horror, but I feel that fad lost it's luster about 4 years ago and now I couldn't be more sick of it. I can't believe they are even remaking the awful "One Missed Call".  ::)

Glad to hear there's no truth to what I read about the Coffin Joe stuff though. I'd like to believe it was not an outright lie, so I'll assume perhaps it was an isolated incident  that was exaggerated. I just wish I could remember where I heard it.

Tarantula, The Blob, the Birds and Them.

The Blob terrified me as a child because I knew it could slip in under my door......

I am a big fan of the cheesy, sunlit horrors of the 70's...Beware! The Blob is a big fave (actually pretty decent fun), and so is The Incredible Melting Man (really awful).

I got to see Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster a few years ago in the theater as part of a Godzilla festival and I really enjoyed it. What a strange film in the series. Way out there but cool.

I liked Godzilla vs Hedorah.  It's REEEEALLY strange!  Got some oddball stuff in it.

I think my favorites of the Godzilla sequels are vs. the Sea Monster, Monster Zero and King Kong vs. Godzilla.  Monster Zero I got to see projected on the big screen once, and it was nice.  At its best, the series is capable of creating some very Disneyesque fantasy.

Blacula is really good, and seems to have gotten better over the years.

Did I mention Horror Express?  Great 70's horror flick.

41 posts, and only 4 people list Them! as a favorite monster movie? Scandalous!   :o

I'd have to say Them! is my favorite, followed by It Came From Outer Space - not that you get to see much there. Do the Mu-tants count, from This island Earth? And is it me or did the missile strikes from that movie presage the Missile Command game of the 1970s?

SO many to choose from:

I really LOVE Island of Terror, and Fiend without a Face too. And The Tingler, all with creepy crawly beasties.

I've been ignoring this thread just because there are waaaaay to many films that fit the requirements than I could say.  But perhaps I will throw in these two Beast from 20000 Fathoms and of course since we've broken past the 50's era Psycho is fair game.
