A genius performer, a shy kid, and in the last 15 years, an amateur human being. That's no insult to the man who's passed on... if I'D been raised by Joseph and Katherine, I'd be pretty messed up too.
I had the chance to meet him a few times in the late 80's/early 90's. Shy, wonderfully self-deprecating sense of humor, and something rarely mentioned even by his own publicists and biographers (unless they're discussing Thriller) but very much appreciated by those of us in the UMA: a serious serious MONSTER FAN he was. His collections of monster goodies was incredible. His love of horror movies, especially Universal Monsters and Romero's zombies, was something to behold (it's why he came up with the song and video for Thriller!).
I was (still am) repulsed by what he'd become in the last decade or so; no amount of love of his music will rid me of that. But the memories of a healthier, seemingly saner and decidedly more lovable Michael will last just as long.
Let the canonization begin. In death he will become the same as John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe, ELVIS... and rightfully so.
One thing he always wanted was to be known and remembered throughout the world even after his death.
He certainly achieved that.
As sorry as I am that the trip was so crazy, Michael, I am sorrier, but not terribly surprised, that it was so short. I hope you're at peace, and that whatever your human failings and sins were, you have left them in contrition in the hands of God.

The stars that burn brightest die soonest.

My thoughts to a tee, Mike. Thank you.

not just 3, it's 4 if you count david carradine just a few weeks or so back.

i agree with you, wich, i don't like sugarcoating facts. when i saw 'reverend' al sharpton attempt to make MJ out to be some kind of saint or martyr, i was getting kind of angry about that (not to mention how he included himself in every sentence). he was one of the best entertainers in living memory, and even entertaining when he wasn't meaning to be. some praise he deserved, some of it's gratuitous platitudes by people who for some inexplicable reason are given a platform to speak on national t.v., and he was unfairly publicly lambasted at times when he just wanted to be left alone. so, no, i don't consider it an epic tragedy, but i do appreciate all the entertainment he provided and the good things his impact had on the world.

his was the kind of life only one person can live in history. just like there can't be another elvis or marilyn or lennon, there can't be another michael jackson. and that's not a gratuitous platitude, that's just the plain truth.

I am still not convinced that this isn't some elaborate publicity stunt for his Come Back TOur.

I think Elvis helped him do it.

I'm not so sure MJ will join the ranks Elvis, Marilyn, and James Dean.

The only positive stuff about the guy I've heard has been in the media and on the internet. In talking with people about Jackson (and I talk to a ton of people everyday at work) the jibe has been a resounding 99% negative. Only one positive thing I've heard- one lady said, "He was such a great dancer when I saw him in '80s, before he started liking little boys." Well, if that's positive.  :-\

Not sure I agree Bob. This video put him in the ranks IMO. Mariyln, Elvis, James Dean, all had personal problems and big time chemical (medical, drugs, booze, etc) addictions too. I prefer to remember the artist for his art alone and not his flaws and shortcomings. To be honest, the above mentioned had made train wrecks out of all of their lives. It seems to go hand in hand with fame and fortune. Not always, but most of the time anyways.

Jackson was a freak, into self-mutilation and illegal sex with minors. I don't care how much talent he had, I don't care how much money he had, that he liked monster movies or anything else.

The Jackson ass-kissing I've seen non-stop on all the media (TV and internet) is disheartening and sickening, and shows where things are headed in this world.

Jackson's wranglings are a matter of public record, and here to view in these public domain documents-

Secret rooms, bedroom doors with a dozen locks on them...I'm sorry, but if you are not guilty of something you are accused of, you will defend your innocence to the end at any cost- not pay off your accusers, especially something as touchy as sex with a 13 year old boy. I wouldn't give this guy a nickel or a moment of my time. Just picture for a moment it was your kid involved.

Scatter, now that's funny.

Just for the record. I'm not ass kissing MJ, and I'm not defending him either. I'm only trying to note his talent and his death. That's what this Cemetery forum is for, and that's what this thread is for. Nothing else. To continue to exploit the negativity at this memorial thread is every bit as disparaging to the thread as it is to the nightly news.

Folks, please...  no spitting on graves in the cemetery.

Everyone knows the good and the bad that's his legacy.  I know many have strong feelings about this kind of thing, but this isn't the place.

Personally. I don't have much good to say about him either.

Not trying to stir the pot here, but since when does secret rooms and multi-locked bedroom doors make you a pervert?
I'm not saying MJ was a pervert or wasn't a pervert, cause I dont know, and as far as the media goes, they label everybody thats different, a weirdo.
I dont condone MJ actions, as for sleeping with kids in his bed, but tell me this, if he did these things he was accused of, why only
2 or 3 kids came forward, why not all of them, why you ask, cause those who did wanted money, why did he pay them off, to end it
How would you like to be labeled a kiddy perv?, I bet you would pay them off too, just to end it, so you could get on with what life you have now, due to the allegations.
Like Toy said, whether we hate or like, doesn't give us the right to spit on anyones grave.

This is a more difficult situation that most in the cemetery.  We do not want to establish a precedent of trashing the dead in this forum.  On the other hand, someone whose star was as bright as Michael Jackson's, and whose issues were as serious and well-known, it's hard to discuss his life without bringing those up too.  But again, we all know them.  We don't need to argue them.  It doesn't have a useful purpose to do so, and turning this into a bash forum is corrosive to this community.

Michael Jackson was incredibly talented, and deeply troubled.  Now he's dead and buried, and the show is over.  Hopefully he finds some peace in death that frequently eluded him in life.  If there are those out there today who consider themselves victims of Michael Jackson, hopefully they can have some peace with this too.
