The Cantankerous Collector

It was great going to TRU back then and not knowing what to expect and even what to look out for 'cause you had no idea what any company was producing. Those Sideshow 8" figures blew me away.

I remember picking up some of the Prehistoric Scenes reissues around then. I also saw reissues of Rodan and King Ghidora which I should have bought. I did buy the big Godzilla kit and built it.

The best deals I ever got at a toy store was at Toy Liquidators. I bought the Sideshow Pozer Wolf Man for like $15, and most of the X-Plus Harryhausen figures for super cheap as well. They had the big boxed 7th Voyage Dragon for $20 and the big Cyclops for $15. I bought the smaller figures for $5 each and the big Talos, Ymir, and Kali for $8-$12 each. Even back then they could have sold those things for at least 2-3 times those prices, but Toy Liquidators always blew everything out fast and cheap. They were part of KB Toys.
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

Yeah, I picked up the Godzilla, Rodan and Ghidora. They also had some of the Planet of the Apes models including a 4-pak. This was around 2000-2001, I believe. Wish they would release Caesar again.

Any more news on the Mondo Creature rubber splitting? I see they are available at Mondo right now. I have a few silicone figures in storage and won't see if they've lasted until I retrieve them. I recently picked up one of these Hono Hot Toys Iron Man figure and it's one of the best figures ever IMO but I'm not sure how long it will last.

Can't get any pics to post...sorry

The fella who ripped his said he was aggressively testing the posing ability of the endo body, and then the rip occurred. I don't know how "aggressive" he was though. I wouldn't be aggressive with something that cost a small fortune though.

Were they back in stock again today? I know the in stock / restock email went out yesterday, but they were sold out within four or five hours and are currently (11:20PM EST 10/29) sold out.

I guess the last time I checked they were still available. I can't remember if that was yesterday or this morning.

Between the world burning to the ground on a daily basis, and inflation: I suspect a great deal of our distractions may evaporate soon. At least they made Creechie.

Are you on Facebook, Vintage Horror? There are a few groups on there that collectors sell in, some focusing on Mondo figures, some on 1/6 horror and monster figures, some centered around monster toys. Short of eBay (and making sure you've signed up for the "notify me when restocked" on the Mondo sales page just in case), you might also try the Sideshow message boards, as there's a lot of cross over there.

I do caution you to know that since there was no wholesale on this version of the figure (which is, as yet, the only version - though there are rumored black and where and non-diorama base versions) the prices you're seeing ($600 plus) aren't  likely to drop much unless those rumored releases materialize. Also, as we get closer to the 15 April US tax deadline, you might see some sellers shorting it for quick cash.

What are you looking to pay for one?

WOW!! So very helpful, thank you! I'm looking to spend not much more than $500 if I can help it.
