Watched New Nightmare. The different take is more interesting but I'm still not a fan.

Knock out this box set and move on to something hopefully better.

Craven is kind of hit or miss for me. I really like The Hills Have Eyes and The Last House on the Left. The original A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Serpent and the Rainbow are pretty good. I was really disappointed in Shocker. Nightmare 2-6 weren't directed by Craven but he did write for them and those are mostly what I was complaining about in my post above. Part 3, Dream Warriors, is the best of parts 2-6. I saw that at the theater back in 1987. Parts 2, and 4-6 are pretty bad imo.

Watched FRANKENSTEIN (1931) this afternoon- interesting in the Waldman death scene Karloff "strangles" him by the back of the neck-- not sure that would have worked.  As Waldman falls and the Monster (note here fellas that they're calling him The Creature in the new movie) gets up his shirt is up and his coat is open, but when he gets downstairs not only is his shirt down, but his coat is buttoned.  That's one fashion conscious monster there.

Well . . . if you squeeze hard enough, you can do some serious damage.

The Wolf Man (1941)
The Devil Bat (1940)
The Conjuring Last Rites (2025) - pretty good
The Raven (1935)
The Golem (1920) - classic on Blu-ray
Marooned (1969) - 56 years later and I've finally seen it for the first time. Way better than I expected. Really good acting all around and tense story. I found myself rooting hard for them.

I was sad when the Lewton films got parceled out to different companies for Blu- ray. I wanted a box set, like this. I may just keep it DVD for these movies.

I love the set too. The only one I've upgraded to blu-ray so far is The Body Snatcher, which is particularly special for me.

Grab me that overpriced La Marca del Hombre Lobo BD while you're there. He would have wanted me to have it.
