The Cantankerous Collector

What is the genesis of the term, "colorways"? Is this a term from the sixties to describe color variations at a time when "black and white" monsters were produced with garish colors? Is it an industry term? A made-up collector's word?

It's the hipster art toy collector way of saying "Paint Scheme".   It just somehow permeated  into all areas of collecting.

I believe it originated from Japanese vinyl folks (many of whom are in addition hipsters).

Has anyone else had their Super7 figures just fall apart?   I had a translucent Crimson Ghost (misfits) figure on a book shelf in my art studio-- I never touch it-- it's actually a part of my studio I don't spend a lot of time in--well, the other day I went over to get a book, picked up The Ghost and he completely fell apart-- front of body separated from the back, arms and head fell out-- straight out of a horror movie he crumbled as I stood there asking myself why I paid $20 for this thing.

They're still making some cool figures-- biggest disappointment for me was their Henry Hull Werewolf which had an expression like a blow up doll-- but I'm less inclined to spend money on stuff that is just going to fall apart.

I'm also curious if I'm the only one that goes through fevered events of deciding I have too much stuff, and I just clear everything out.   It doesn't seem to hold on for long, but I wonder if I'm following in the tracks of a good friend who formerly collected vintage Batman items and then one day woke up and just decided he wasn't any longer and he gave everything away.   Seven years later he's doing fine but he doesn't buy anything anymore.

I've had the Funko re-action Glow monsters fall apart.

Mine are all still on the cards. Don't know what I'd do if they fell apart inside the bubble?

The early ReAction figures when Funko was still in the mix had a fair amount of problems (I recall a couple of Terminator robots in particular that arrived as piles of parts rattling around inside their blisters), but since that Faustian bargain was annulled, I've only had two notable defects among the hundreds that have come through the store... avery crooked bubble on a Devo figure, anda Bride of Frankenstein "Halloween Kid" whose mask fell off inside the package. And none of my personal collection have suffered any such failures.

I saw Glow in the Dark Bride of Frankenstein Universal Monsters Super Cycle for pre-order on Big Bad Toy Store so I guess that will be the next round of Monster Super Cycles. I'm always tempted by GID stuff.

Yes, give or take .25. Sorta like the others they've done, just O ring waist and bendable elbows and knees.
