I've seen other monster rings, often identified as "Cartoon Monster" flicker-rings... you guys are probably familiar with them I'm sure. Is there any info out there on these specifically? Were they connected to anything other than maybe just gum ball machines? These are the color ones of what appears to be a Frankenstein, a zombie, and some brutish ogre or thug. There may be others... don't know.
Here's some info from Worthpoint: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-1960s-lot-monster-flicker-4592518954

There are 3 rings in the set with 6 different monsters (per the "flicker" function). According to Worthpoint they're made by Vari-Vue. I've been following this stuff for years and these rings seem to sell for around $20-$25 each, much less than the Vari-Vue Universal Monsters flicker rings or the Don Post Mask flicker rings. They seem to just be cheap gumball machine fare. I have a couple of vending machine display cards with these rings, one has 6 of the rings and is a 5-cent card.

Here's a net pic of a display card very similar to mine:

Thank you Sergeant!  Just what I was looking for. I love how quirky the art is. Do these have the Hong Kong bands on them like the Various-Vue?

The ones I have of this type are on the bases (bands) like the original Vari-Vue Universal Monsters flicker rings have, so I guess those are the Hong Kong bases. Here's more info: https://www.universalmonsterarmy.com/forum/index.php?msg=201981

That makes them an ideal collectible in my book!

I'm not sure. It may be some kind of noise maker you blow on?

I got curious and checked a little closer. The lettering on the paper underneath it is faded badly. Anyway, it's called a Swiss Warbler Bird Whistle. Amazon linky: https://www.amazon.com/swiss-warbler-bird-call/s?k=swiss+warbler+bird+call

Just a sad observation... remember when there was actually some interesting traffic on this board? It seems like it's about dried up, and most of what's left is about new toys. I miss the old UMA.

Probably because there's nothing much left about old toys that we don't already know.

There are still interesting things to discover about classic monster stuff, just not many people posting about it now.

Ha... I can help with traffic a little bit.  I've been a collector of 70's era toys for decades of pop culture stuff from my memories... Mego figures, lunch boxes, anything monster related (buttons, albums, comics, coloring books, puzzles... you name it...) In my "picking adventures", I started picking up Palmer Monsters, Ajax Archer Spacemen, Tomland figures, Ugly Buttons, Frito Lay mini-monsters, Soakys, etc... each new find sends me down a rabbit hole (like these flicker rings). I have a hundred questions about most of these things and I've been a "lurker" here for years. You guys are the best brain-trust I've seen for old monster stuff. I've wanted to ask questions, but I know I'm a novice in these older toys... and I din't want to be a nuisance.
