Monsters For Sale

Spring 2015 - The main character is an unmarried young man, whose whole life is centered around taking care of his mother.  She dies, leaving him without much rationale for existing.  In his pain and confusion, he strikes out in a bar fight that starts him out on a flight from the law.  He flees to Italy, where he falls in love with a very attractive woman.  Its at this point that things begin to get weird.

Really odd film.  What first appears to be drifting off into "The Howling"-type story veers into something much more primal and ancient.  Has a kinda neat little twist at the very end.

Not for everyone.  Not a lot of rattling/screeching high points along the way.  Might seem plodding to others.  In some ways, more of a psychological study than a typical horror story.

I liked the atypical aspects of the movie.  What did my fellow members think of this one?

Mord

 I Walked With a Zombie-
    Very atmospheric Lewton classic.

couple of Italian flicks...

Graveyard Disturbance (1988)      Frivolous and goofy. Some cool imagery, though. (4/10)

The Church (1989)      Not bad. Ancient church is built on a huge pit of demons. (6/10)

Mama (2013).

I really liked this one. Some have criticized it as unoriginal, but I thought it was a very well done ghost story, creepy throughout and with some good scares.

Insidious (2010).

I had high hopes for this one because of the good buzz I had heard, but I found it disappointing. I have no interest in watching any of the sequels.

An afterthought: it occurs to me that these are not "classic" films, so maybe they're out of place in this thread? If so, sorry about that! I wasn't paying attention to what section this thread is in when I posted.

This thread has become a catch-all for any non-Universal genre film, classic or not. So, no worries.

Nah.  This is just a general thread, the films don't have to be classics.
