The art work on this thread is just awesome, there are some really talented people out there.

I also used to do a bit of art of the universal /hammer monsters etc as a past time myself, but recently got told that any monster images and photos are copyrighted, and the owner of the copyrights can take a dim view of anyone who paints anything associated with these, and it could even end up as a legal case?

This has really put me off, but wondered if anyone could advise if this is actually true? There does seem to be loads of fan art out there? I would love to start painting them again, but not with the worry of being cleaned out by lawyers...

All the best

yea it may be the case. I don't know for sure but I think it comes down to selling a painting of a "celebrity" or printing a thousand shirts or posters of your art. but again I don't know for sure but I think showing off your art would be fine unless it copying other art. I know frazetta used to tell me how he hated that people would copy his art. and again it may and again I don't know the difference between an artist that paints stylized like gogos or back in the day or like andy Warhol's marylin Monroe painting compared to a photo realistic painting. good question.

More great pieces, Therin. So many things were shot at Vasquez Rocks, including plenty of Westerns.

This is super obscure, but here's a petit point and embroidery portrait  I made of Ernest Thesiger as he appeared in the character of Death at Charles Conder's fancy dress ball in 1905:

"I went as Death, in black draperies, with a skull-mask wreathed in scarlet poppies.  On the many fans that Conder afterwards painted representing the ball, there is nearly always to be found my macabre figure in the corner."

Painting by Conder which may depict Ernest in this costume (far left):

And in case you don't get the embroidery connection, here ya go:  http://ernestthesiger.org/Ernest_Thesiger/Embroidery.html

Van Gogh on tapestry!  Fantastic work, Ludi.  This is obviously from his Midnight (Blue) Period!  ha ha... great work.

Thank you!  I've been having trouble settling on what next to stitch with a monstery theme. Though they are not monsters, bats figure largely in the monster mythos, so I think I'll do one of those.

A Decoration I've been wanting to do for a while. If you look closely slimmer is actually a pre cut santa head I had to figure out what to fit to make it look like slimer so that's where the chicken leg fits in ( that's santas fur ball at the end of his hat )
