The sign was used in the late 60's through the early 80's. I bought it with some costumes on line. The Frankenstein and witch costume, that are spooky spooks are from the mid 80's

Well Collegeville and Ben Cooper costumes are both of similar quality, they were both very popular, and sometimes you will see one having the same exact mask as the other with just a different paint job. Other Halloween costumes were made by Halco, and even Sears.

I love the ones that POP in a black light, it so reminds me of the eighties.
Very cool collection!  The ghost at the bottom kinda looks like a Sleestack.

I used to admire the Halloween costume displays at the downtown Woolworth, Kresge, Zellers and Metropolitan stores in London, Ontario in the early sixties. I never aspired to get one though as I knew such a request would be a non-starter with my mother. I just bought a different mask at the corner variety store every year. To my current dismay I threw each and every one of those masks out sometime after Halloween (or my parents did). I can't even remember what any of the masks were specifically although I know they were all funny animals.

when I saw Halloween 4 IN 1988 I Remember seeing these exact costumes in the school scene. Two cruel little boys were wearing the MASK costume and the Frankenstein costume, also this witch costume was featured in the same film but in a different scene. I have been looking for this Frank costume with the breaking chains for a long time. I finally found one.

How old is your oldest costume? Do you have any pre-1970 costumes?

My oldest costume is my Trick Or Treat costume with the top hat Jack O Lantern mask, it is from the 1950's, I also have a devil mask from the 50's, and a couple of clown costumes from the 60's.

Hi, I've posted the following picture before and I was wondering if it was a Collegeville Costume or a cheap knock-off.  It was from 1969- 1971 and it's a Polaroid, so it's rapidly fading. I just can't figure out if it's a gypsy or some kind of fortune teller/witch costume and it's been bugging me.  Anyway, I figure there's enough costume expertise around here to help me solve the mystery and look around for one someday. thanks..

The mask you have shown here is a witch mask from the early 70's originally it was a Halloween giveaway mask by Zest soap, but it was made by Ben Cooper masks, looks just  like the one in your picture. I own this exact mask. Great old photo by the way, I love it.

WOW!!!! That was fast!  Thank you sooo much! I have been looking around for the better part of a year, for that mask! I just couldn't get a clear description in my mind, and it made no sense to me!  I kept staring at the cape and mask as a pair, but now I realize it was a mix and match costume! So cool! And there was color film in the 70s, but my parents didn't buy any! hahaha!! My dad was an insurance investigator, and got free Polaroid b&w film from work. I am really happy to be in such great company here at the UMA! And I have looked at your Collegeville photos at least 8 times! What an outstanding collection you have, sandman    Those costumes bring back  so many happy memories to me and many others here. Thanks again!

I haven't seen one for sell in a while, they are kind of rare since they were a soap giveaway mask, not a lot were made for Zest. It glows really bright in a black light.

Yeah, it's me     I grew up in Michigan and I'm glad my dad made every childhood photo look chilling with Polaroid b&w instant camera film! hahahahaha!! I can still smell that weird sponge thing that you rubbed across the photo, which I guess was some sort of preservative.....or finishing chemical??  Anyway, I am thrilled that the costume was identified before the picture faded away. I have several pics of myself that have already faded.....and each time one fades out, I look at my hands to make sure I'm still here 
My husband, who has zero interest in my Halloween costume obsession, was surprised when I read this whole thread to him and delighted when I showed him sandman's collection!! He says he doesn't remember seeing these costumes when he was a kid, he was born in the 50s- but I think he just has a weak memory. Probably because I've filled his mind with my gibberish for the last 32 years!

I was born in the 60's and I vividly remember almost all of them, especially the various  Frankenstein, Devil , and skull masks which were my favorite as a child.

The reason you so vividly remember them now is because you must clearly have been enchanted by them when you were a kid. And that's why you collect them now.
