This mourning I watched Dracula. Bela Lugosi IS Dracula as far as I'm concerned.
Listen to them. Children of the Night. What music they make!

Phantom Stranger

"Curse Of The Faceless Man" (1958)
                                 -Richard Anderson
Plot: IMDB

In the excavation of Pompeii, a stone-encrusted body is found with a bronze medallion bearing a strange Etruscan inscription. Carlo Fiorillo, Italian archaeologist, speculates the robust body may hold some life; medical researcher Paul Mallon scoffs at the idea. But people left alone with the seemingly petrified "faceless man" keep dying of crushed skulls; and Paul's artist fiancee Tina starts having strange visions...

Phantom's Review: Lordy! How I love these 1950"s "B" monster movies. Over the top, melodramatic and cheesy as Hell, but with an undeniable charm. This film follows the same basic plot as the Universal "Mummy" movies and is lots of fun to watch. Not even close to being a "classic", but very enjoyable.

Phantom Stranger

"Red Riding Hood" (2011)
-Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Shiloh Fernandez

Plot: IMDB

Valerie (Seyfried) is a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie's older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life. Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon's arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon... Written by Warner Bros. Pictures

Phantom's Review: I gotta be honest with you, I really didn't  know what to expect from this film when we watched it. Was it going to be a "Wolfman" style "guts and gore" horror flick? Or some sort of lame "Twilight" type of film. Much to my surprise, the film seemed to follow a murder mystery type of format with almost the entire village locked behind walls and the werewolf is someone on the inside. You get a bunch of suspects to choose from and the director leads you in different directions as you try and figure it out. The film is beautifully shot and is surprisingly good, both in story and acting.
The romance angle is a little cliche', but the ending is interesting. Overall, I liked it.

The PROWLER(1981), great underrated slasher film.
"They come from the bowels of hell; a transformed race of walking dead. Zombies, guided by a master plan for complete domination of the Earth."

- Dracula (1979) Haven't seen this one in awhile, always liked this version. Lucy's crypt in a grave is downright creepy.

- Burn, Witch Burn (a pretty cool witchcraft movie)

- Conan the Barbarian (2011) It was cool, still like the Arnold version. makes a good Conan, for those whom have seen Game of Thrones, I was expecting more of a Drago.
"For one who has lived but a single lifetime, you are a wise man ...Van Helsing."
"I shall awaken memories of love and crime and death..."

FACTO2

Paul.  Funny as hell.  More scifi references than you can shake a light saber at.  Highly recommended.

Dylan dog. Dead of night (2011)
It was mildly entertaining. It would have been a phenominal movie if bruce cambell was dylan dog, the role would have been perfect for him! And I laughed at the thought of a zombie support group.
Mirabile dictu,don't you agree?

"Conan The Barbarian" (2011)
                                   -Jason Momoa

Plot: IMDB

The tale of Conan the Cimmerian and his adventures across the continent of Hyboria on a quest to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village.

Phantom's Review: Awesome! This was a great movie. Exactly what I wanted in a Conan movie. A story right out of the pulps, extreme violence, gallons of gore, evil witches, sorcery, sword fights and lots of naked woman.
Jason Momoa is fine as Conan (his style/look  is  more Barry Windsor-Smith, than John Buscema) and the film is shot well. I enjoyed it a lot.

Funny, when I saw the trailer that's exactly the sound that emitted from my lips...........Ehhhh.

"Moon Of The Wolf" (David Janssen 1972)

Nice little werewolf story set among the magnolias of the Deep South. Janssen, awesome as usual, is a small town Sheriff trying to figure out who or WHAT is mowing down the town's hick population faster than tainted moonshine at a Monster Truck rally.

Awesome 1970s fashions, some cool 1970s cars, and apparently the entire cast of "Deliverance" reunited. 6 bananas.

"Dr Pickle And Mr Pryde" (1925)

Stan Laurel, pre-Hardy, takes a comic turn at the Jeckyll and Hyde tale. I love anything with Stan in it, and there are some great scenes in this one, so 8 bananas.
We're all here because we're not all there.
