WAY TO GO UP! Scatter hope your calf heals soon.  Okay, if you guys can do it, so can I.  I am officially joining in on the work out and weight loss regiment.

Yay!  Bill " The Thrill " is in!  Hey, I can actually walk today!  Wasn't sure how I'd feel, but so far, so good.  Scatter, is there anything you can do to alleviate the pain?  Charlie-horses are agonizing!  I know - I get them in in a mass of scar tissue covering my ribs & wrapping around the right side up my back!  Hang in there, pal - we're rooting for you!  You're the one who inspired us to get going on this mission!

Oh owie!  Oh Scatter!  I'm so sorry.  I hope it feels better.  Make sure to do stretches.

Hey, I let this thing slip BADLY. The torn ligament in my calf has healed. Thank God. I'm down 14 pounds from the start of this thing. Haven't started back walking yet because the calf still has a tendency to ball up on me, but I'm going to start that slowly tomorrow and see how it goes.

Diet consists of high protein-moderate carbs-a gallon of lemon water a day with intermittent fasting. This has become a routine by this point and the food temptations are really no big deal any more. Haven't cheated yet. Once I get close to goal weight I'll allow myself one cheat day a week, see how my body reacts over a couple weeks, and adjust accordingly. But that's a LOOOOOOOOONG way away at this point.

OK.............calf feels pretty good with the walking. I do 4 miles most days, 5 miles on others because Jordan has joined us to lose some weight and I do an extra mile with him when I don't have to work nights. When my ankles hurt too much I'll take a day off.

Added in some light jogging to the mix on the last half of my walks, and have started pushing the car (with Jordan steering) to get some explosion back in my legs after the multiple injuries (torn ACL, torn mid-calf ligament, 2 arthritic ankles).

This week adding in some interval burpees when I can't walk, and some bodyweight exercises (dips, elevated pushups, chinups, car pushing for the legs).

Just passed the 20 pounds lost mark (20.5). I expect the weight loss to stagnate a bit with the added resistance training, so that won't throw me.

I want to shove my face neck-deep into a supreme pizza so bad that it hurts.

How's everybody else doing?

Way to go, my knuckle dragging brother!  I know it's tough, training with pain - but it does build character, eh?  And you are definitely a character!  Keep up the good work.

I'm actually doing pretty good right now.  I'm mainly doing light weights,  trying to gradually build my core-strength back up, and toughen my back muscles.  Doing lat pulldowns with a top weight of 100=120 lbs. for 15-20 reps & occasionally just holding the stack (160 lbs.) at full stretch for 30-60 seconds - you oughta hear my back poppin' & crackin' when I do that!  I also throw in some seated dumbell presses with light weights for high (20-30) reps, followed by standing dumbell curls for the same weight & reps.  Finish up with ultra strict triceps pushdowns, totally isolating my triceps - this is the heaviest weight I use, because frankly, it's where I'm the strongest right now!  I'm even doing the abdominal machine for medium-heavy weight for 20-50 reps.  I have a rather massive abdomen and now that the fat is slowly breaking up and causing "dunlap's disease", I can actually see some slight indication of actual abdominal muscle!  I plan to start some treadmill trudging on an incline this upcoming week.  This is my biggest challenge because of the fact that I wear braces on my legs, plus am still fighting pain & back spasms - YAY!  Yes, when this Unknown Primate lumbers along the treadmill, it looks like a cross between Frankenstein and Bigfoot in slow-mo!

A year ago, I weighed around 360-365.  After breaking my back, I got down to 320.  I went for my check-up last week and had gained 17 freakin' pounds!  But, my labwork came back with the best report I've had in 20 years!  I turn 55 this May, and I am GOING to break 300 lbs. or my name isn't Mark...  or Golden Gorilla...  or U.P.

And now, I turn the podium over to:

Mark, that's AWESOME brother!! Shoot, it's actually GOOD news that you gained the weight. Let's you know you're gaining muscle mass, which when stabilized will help you burn fat. What are doing with your eating?? I've pretty well eliminated simple starches (bread, grains, pasta, etc.) and sugars. Not going the Atkins route and eliminating ALL carbs though. Still eating lots of veggies and stuff. Just making sure I'm not spiking insulin by keeping the carbs complex and in proportion.

Eating LOTS of good fats and keeping away from processed foods. I've had 2 planned cheat days along the way with no problems. But I'm going to really bear down until we leave for Washington DC on the 15th. I'd like to get to between  215 and 220 by then..............and not put it all back on while we're away.  ;D

Well, when I'm not cheating  ::), I'm just mainly keeping my portion sizes down.  Some whole grains, oatmeal, leaner meats (chicken, salmon, tuna) and lots of greenery!  Trying to add more fruits, too - bananas (surprise!), oranges & apples.  My "cheat" days are when my wife isn't looking ;D.

Have a great time in the nation's capitol, my friend!

You guys keep at it! As I grow older I'm finally realizing  we are what we eat. Only down side is seeing the grocery bill go sky-high buying the healthy stuff and asking did you buy any food 2 days later.    Buddy

UP, congrats on the good check up!! I'm happy for you. Over a year ago I had three slipped discs in my neck. Doctor put me on the drug from hell, prednesone. I gained weight that I'm *still* struggling to lose. Keep up the good work!
