I know, that just screams "60s", doesn't it?

I wish I had a picture of the velour Captain Kirk shirt Mom made for my brother. It was just about perfect! She embroidered the insignia and used some shiny metallic ribbon for the rank braid. It was so cool that when my brother wore it to the filming of a local kids show, the host actually had him come out of the audience and show the camera!  ;D

The couch, the lamp, the two tiered table (which I believe it was illegal NOT to own back then). AWESOME!! What a nice looking family!!

Thanks Gary. It freaks me out that my parents were younger in that photo than I am now. Dad was 35 and Mom 32. And I thought they were old!!

Moonshadow, great pic!! Thanks for posting. Love that couch!

Yeah we had that couch for many a year. All the other furniture too.  I also recall that the lamp gave me a terrific electric shock when I was about 10 which sent me sailing across the room!

My mom would make a special cake for each boy's birthday, featuring whatever they were into at the time. I had cakes with a Jack Kirby Captain America on it, a big Spider-Man face, even Elton John!! When I was 10 years old I was a huge Banana Splits fan, so she made me a Banana Splits cake! For the life of me I can't remember where we got the figures, but I believe it was some sort of model kit. She did a killer job painting them, and I've kept them for forty years, although they've lost a limb or two along the way, and Drooper is nowhere to be found. Sorry for the blurry pic, but that's all that's survived.

And here's the Splits as they are today:

That's just fantastic Mike! I have only a couple of photos of the cakes my mom made. Isn't it amazing what they did for their kids? Just look how happy you are in that picture. It's wonderful.

Moonshadow - Great family photo, love how happy everyone looks together.  I also had a shirt similar to your brother's growing up.

Illoman - Love those Banana Splits figures, and the cake.  Your mom is awesome.

Illoman--- Great Banana Splits cake. I loved the Banana Splits ,too.
Aurora made those Banana Splits models, they are very rare and valuable today.

This is me and my younger sister. The sign says "ghost town Calif." I think this was in Knott's Berry Farm in the 70's.
My parents drove all the way from Boston to San Diego.

Hmm, we seem to have slowed down a bit here. I love seeing everyone's pictures, so I'll try to get things rolling again with this Christmas card photo of my family from 1967.

That's my mom and dad, my brother, and me. You'll notice everyone can follow instructions and look at the camera except for me, but heck, I was only about 3 and a half.

Also, in the background there's a small plastic jack o'lantern on the table. That was left over from Halloween but I am betting Mom let us keep it out past the holiday because we wanted to play with it. I know I still had it at least into my early teens.

Hey, I thought I was the only one who went 'pants optional' for Holiday Cards!

You sort of have to go pants optional when you're wearing a dress... ;)

Moonshadow-  Your family is glamorous looking!!  I wish we had your genes in my goofy looking family!  Seriously, your parents look like movie stars  :)  And all your pictures look so welcoming, I feel like I could have come over and hung out at your house without your mom or dad whispering to you - "is that kid EVER gonna leave?".  Hahaha- I also love your brother's shirt. We had a blanket made of that several years ago and we all used to fight to get it-soooooo soft.
Monolith- That place is creepy! But you kids look like you were having a good time, so that's all that counts. I wonder if there are any more "ghost town" type places that still exist?
Illoman- Your mom and I are two of a kind, except she actually had cake making skills! I have made theme cakes since my kids were born, but some of them looked like piles of volcanic ash.  The Banana Splits cake is so wonderful! I made Care Bear cakes, Masters of the Universe cakes, etc. just by buying the figures and attempting to place them on the cake. But by the time my kids were school-age, I started ordering them from a bakery so they wouldn't be embarassed in front of their friends. But during the teenage years, it became humorous again to make my sad theme cakes, so I'm back on the cake wagon- with no formal training and it shows   :)     I respect and applaud all "cake Moms"!!!

Oooops.  Forgot you were a chick. (I just called you a chick... ::)).... I saw that and immediately was thinking Keith Partridge shirt thingy.....  It would have been SO awesome if your folks had you sans pants for a Holiday Card, though! ;D

...and your brother is looking VERY 'Commander Pike-ish'.....

Illoman

Okay, here I am at nine years old. I'm hoping someone can help me identify the robot I'm holding. I seriously have no idea what it is or why I had it. It may have been a random gift from somebody.  Thanks!

Scatter, it may a depth perception-kinda thing. Although with four hungry males in the family...I dunno!  ;D

I went out and bought one at a retro clothing place on Queen Street called Black Market about fifteen years ago. I like to wear it every so often.
