They're not as smart as you are. In fact they find it convenient to be less smart than most in such cases. "Well I only know of two. You don't really expect me to look for more, do you?"

I have no sympathy whatsoever for sellers who resort to such blatant puffery. None.

I sent him an offer of $1,500 just to see what would happen. The offer was rejected with no counter-offer. I didn't think there was any danger of having to actually cough up the $1,500 (though I would have honored my bid if it had been accepted). I wanted to see if the seller was serious about the asking price. Apparently, yes. Well, good luck on that.
