Anybody else notice that he raised the B.I.N. price of the wallets from $2500 to $3500 sometime in the last three hours? What kind of game is he playing?

???

Only guessing but perhaps he lurks here and noticed all the interest and figured he could get a few more $$

It's only a guess but I have sen it before in other collecting fields , not really cricket and it will sour a lot of potential buyers.

Could also be he is a collector that really does not want to sell his collection and raised the price on a few favorite items to justify not selling them as he can rationalize that "he tried" but no one was interested

Really don't know why he did it but the above 2 choices may be it

I don't know if $600 per wallet is such a crazy price that it's a guaranteed no sale.

This samjo123 has a Haunted Hulk listed incorrectly as complete. I sent him a message to ask if he has the green ship's wheel, and I told him it isn't complete without it. He messaged me back, and I quote, "I miss place it, I'm looking for it" (mmm?). The guy can raise his BIN by a grand on a listing but doesn't bother to correct a misleading error in another auction that he knows is incorrect. He shouldn't list it as complete unless he has all the items in hand. If I were buying any of this stuff, which I'm not, I would tread very lightly and make sure I knew exactly what was complete and incomplete, and the facts regarding original parts and repro parts... especially when we're talking about these kind of prices (which make thousand dollar jumps periodically, it would seem). Poor seller etiquette.

I asked him about the wheel last night, he told me he wasn't aware it came with one!???? but that I was correct and that it wasn't complete then,   so he must have looked it up. but I was surprised he didn't change the listing?? I also asked about the stickers if they were repops, he claims they aren't.....but I would be skeptical, seeing all the repop stuff in the pics, popcorn bucket, hororscope box, bike buddy box. I definitely see some stuff id love to own in the pics but I think I  would want to inspect it in person first.
I think his listings need a lot more description to them.   look at the wallet listing , no pics of the other side of the wallets? hes not even sure what cards are in them? also listed as mint condition, they do look nice but I see several skuffs on them, what do the insides look like?
I don't know this man personally, and he may be a good guy,  BUT..
buyer beware is all I have to say here.
Mirabile dictu,don't you agree?

Yep. I've never seen original HH stickers that look that good. They appear to be a little age discolored but for a repopper that wouldn't be a problem. I'm not accusing this guy of anything except not updating an incorrect listing now that he knows it's wrong, but as you say, buyer beware.

And, you're right, he should certainly have extensive pictures of the wallets, and the set of cards he stated comes with them. I'm always very leery of anyone throwing the "M" word around so casually. I'm an old comic book collector and I know what that word really means, and just how scarce true "mint" items really are. I had rather use descriptions like "undamaged", "excellent", and "as new", when I describe an item in great condition. "Mint" is tossed around by sellers so much all it does is send up a red flag for me that the person isn't grading the item accurately.

Precisely. It sure soured me. It's the game playing.

Moreover he has another auction(s) with no minimum but a hidden reserve. Excuse me? If that's the price you want, just say it! Don't make potentially interested bidders play a guessing game. Worse yet, if the hidden reserve isn't reached, Ebay then discloses the maximum bid to the tools who do this. They can then come back and offer the bidder the item at the maximum price he was willing to pay. Excuse me but you have no right to know my maximum! That should not have been divulged to you by Ebay. I'll pay no more than one tick more than the next highest bidder!

Yes. Funny that.

And what's this business of "all 9 monsters" being present? To my knowledge MPC only issued eight Weird Monster figures.

At best. Not to immediately correct an error is inexcusable. What, he didn't have the time/get the chance? But somehow he did have the time to fiddle with a B.I.N. price.

Yes, the usage of the word "mint" raises a red flag indeed. It makes the seller sound like a used car salesmen. I once had a shyster reply that a clearly worn book was "mint" because no pages were missing!

And of course the easiest thing of all to reproduce is the monster wallet cards. Although one look at the dot pattern (or lack thereof) with a magnifying glass would tell the tale.

1. Yes, how can a collector who ostensibly loves his stuff not know?

2. And if he doesn't know, why doesn't he just open his display case and check so he doesn't have to say something strange in his listing?

The issue that sours the deal though is dickering around with his price after he's opened his listing.

Moreover did you notice his bald faced assertion that there are only four known copies of the Mad, Mad, Mad Scientist Laboratory in existence? Sorry buddy. I'd venture to say that anyone who owns one of these knows it. Just because these other samples aren't known to you does not mean they're not known. And checking the details of your Haunted Hulk and SPP monster wallet listings, there's a lot you don't know, even about the items you're listing for sale.

And did you notice in at least a couple of his listings he states that the listed item was sold for a brief amount of time in the back pages of Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine?

1. Ahhhh, but what's a brief amount of time though? Several months? Several years?

2. Secondly, he's slyly implying that these items were sold only through Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. This of course is bunk since they were widely sold through mass market retailers.

The Mad Mad Mad Scientist Lab is missing several pieces, and an insert which holds the eyedropper, cup, measuring spoon, etc. It has also been used. This is definately not the "second best known" example.

On this very board both you and Toy Ranch have better examples, do you not?

???

As far as his "only four known copies in existence" statement is concerned, let me quote:

Quote from: toysfortheages on June 29, 2010, 11:58:06 PMNot to boast but I've owned five of these beauties over the past 22 years, plus one empty box.  Every one of them was purchased privately.

A further example of this now is that he has terminated the auction for the Haunted Hulk to sell it privately. Like I say, this fellow is playing games.

There is no way I'm buying or bidding on anything he's selling. Just too many gray areas.

Same here , I would buy a reproduction of a rare item from him as I know what I would be getting but as far as other supposed "original mint" items it's just not worth the risque when dealing with high ticket items

Monster Bob

There are two versions of the "store" MMMS LAB (plus a generic "mail order" version that I personally don't care about).

I have an example of each, both unused. Bobby has one of them also.

I'm sure the "second best one known" thing was added mainly as a bid incentive, BUT I am not going to knock the piece or the seller. This is a helluva piece- and next to a MIB speaker head, a true "Holy Grail" of 60s Monsterdom.
