My apologies. I'm also to blame for some of the Florida diversions. I allowed it to unravel longer than I should have. Had I been a good moderator, I would have moved some of the off topic posts to a new thread named "Why I Hate Where I Live."  I will do just this a bit later this evening. I have a feeling a lot of folks might find this future thread useful.

Albeit late, I now officially return you to the exclusive Monster Bash 2010 thread.

I will try to summarize, but I always have a Fantastic (!) time at Monster Bash. Yes, I wish the AC was a bit better, and I felt rather drained by Sunday, so if I didn't get to say a formal good-bye to some friends, I apologize.
My wife and I usually get in on Thursday in time to drop by and get our registration complete and badges, and to shop the Creepy Classics. I always find at least one Hammer film i didn't already have.
Friday, after our start at the Country Kitchen, we really, really liked Daniel Griffith's short documentaries on the making of "Beast of Yucca Flats" and K. Gordon Murray's "Santa Claus". "House of the Wolfman" was unavailable due to unfortunate circumstances, but enjoyed a chunk of the showing of "Tarantula", which was an appropriate addition. Met and chatted with Mr. Lobo, on his first appearance. Got most of the autographs Friday afternoon, caught the Q & A w/Billy Gray, and Bert I. Gordon and stayed for the "Earth vs the Spider" showing. Caught part of the band at the Sock Hop and they pretty much rocked.
Saturday we enjoyed lunch at the Country Kitchen again, the Ghoul A-Go-Go, the trivia quiz, the Q&A with Julie Adams, the tribute to Ben, and after dinner the Q & A for Ann Robinson. Took some time in the dealers room again, and enjoyed talking w/ Billy Gray, Richard Sheffield, and Chilly Billy After dinner we took in Don Reese, which is always one of THE highlights of any Bash. The weather held out for the parking lot drive-in, so we caught "The Thing" and the after reenactment. We stayed through the Michael Thomas Tribute.

Sunday, we had lunch at our favorite again, and caught the Q & A for Jimmy Hunt and Brain Nichols pretty kool new film. Made some last purchases too.

Throughout the weekend, we just enjoyed any and all conversations with the great "cousins in spirit". I told someone that the great thing about the Bash is that you can turn to the person you are sitting next to and start a conversation by just saying, "Hey, what's your favorite George Pal film?" and the reply will be something, "Gee, that's tough, I always like the Time Machine" whereas in "real life" the reply might be, "Ah, who's George Pal?"

To annotate a previous post, I saw the Stooges around at least three times, no puns intended, each time in different costumes, including the bakers outfits from the pie throwing before the drive-in. I saw the Patient Creatures often, and yes, our friend Penny, Garou and Crew very often, thanks for coming this year Von Bulow!

I don't have too many complaints except that I had trouble hearing Zach Zito at times, wish they could mike him, but his performance was pretty intense. If you haven't had dinner over at Mama Rosa's, you also miss one of the great things about being at Butler as well.

     Can't wait til next year.

Michael

My music is for Phoenix. Only she can sing it. Anyone else who tries, dies.

Jane and I really enjoyed it. Although the AC wasn't what it ought to be, it was a good deal better than last year.

I think only one guest charged to take a picture. All the rest were happy to chat and stand for pics. Julie Adams only charged $10 for an autograph on your own item, and Richard Gordon.

The live band was very good and Susan Gordon was a tornado on the dance floor. She did a sweet slow dance with her elderly director dad, Bert I. Gordon.

The only thing worse, IMHO, was the buffet that was offered. Except for Saturday night, which was okay.

We really had a good time.

Where on Richard Gordon did Julie Adams put her autograph?  I bet he was pleased!!  (Although dotting the "i" can be painful.)

Any pictures?  I missed being there this year.

I was prepared this year and brought an extra fan for my Days Inn hotel room.  That, and running the air conditioning in my room alot while I was out, helped drop the humidity.  So my stay was better than last year.  Of course, I did have that same room with the lovely view of the brick wall.

Met George Steele and got his autograph for my uncle.  Enjoyed "Little Red Riding Hood meets the Monsters" and free tacos.  The documentary on "Beast of Yucca Flats" was great.  Really wanted to see "House of the Wolfman" and was sorry we missed it.  Watched "Tarantula", sang the song of the new wine, loved the Trivia contest, watched "Charlie Chan at Treasure Island" and "Black Friday" as the midnight shows, enjoyed free cake, saw "The Thing" on the Drive-In, and especially liked "The Mummy in the Maze".  The Stooges were great too.  Didn't listen to the sock-hop.  It was sad how many people had passed or were injured since the last Bash.  Brian Nicols talked about doing a Charlie Chan video for next year - Charlie Chan in Transylvania.  Sounds GREAT.

I picked up the TCM Charlie Chan DVDset, the GhostBusters DVD set (Forrest Tucker, Larry Storch & Bob Burns), "Terror in the Tropics".  I wanted tons of stuff - but really didn't NEED them.  So, maybe when MonsterMania comes down to Maryland, I'll have another chance at them again.  Mark Redfield was supposed to be there - had a table with his name on it - but didn't show.  I hope he is OK.

I agree the dining at the hotel was a definite slid from previous years - though the Sunday buffet was fine.

I went looking for the UMA room and didn't find one.
Looks like I'll be missing this Monster Bash! - Maybe in 2016 : (

Maybe I'll see you all at Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Festival.

To clear up a little confusion--- Movie Monster Museum is the collection of Dennis Phelps who runs (online) a site with the MMM name and he also runs the Harry Thomas Tribute site.  Easily found if you do a little googling.  Dennis told me he was going to have a table at Bash, but I didn't ask him what all he was showing or selling.  He often does a little of both.  A few years ago he shared his table at Bash with me--I displayed a few Ackermansion items, and he was displaying that year the ORIGINAL "puppet" used in THE BLACK SCORPION and some original Lugosi items.  Dennis always has interesting things to see when he sets up!

Sorry, but i don't understand what all the apologizing is about...yes, the Florida remarks were off topic, but there was nothing flaming or hurtful about them. I had a really bad childhood experience [almost traumatic] that i was simply relating to others with whom i shared a particular point of view. I love this group and would never do anything to alienate myself from it. Terry, you do a MAGNIFICENT job in running it and Scatter, you should be allowed to say what you like about where you live. I live on eastern Long Island and love it...anybody out there who has a different point of view, PLEASE  [at least as far as i'm concerned] feel free to express it. Personally, i don't care if i read about it here or in the vintage toys thread, but i do understand folks who might be upset by this.

The Drunken Severed Head

I think it's just that some folks found the thread had become a tad schizo-- the two topics, so completely different, were alternating posts. I think some folks found it a bit confusing or distracting. If I hadn't been at work when I read this thread, I think I would have split it in two. I may still-- but I'm off to bed now.

Or maybe I'll just re-title it "The Incredible Two-Headed Thread."

Gasport, there was/is absolutely no problem with discussing the pros and cons of Florida... it's just a matter of chatting about it over where it belongs, in General Discussion.  Not here in the Butler, Pennsylvania Monster Bash 2010 thread.

When a topic is of particular interest to someone, they will watch for updates and new posts in that particular thread.

Folks who are monitoring this thread would most likely be looking for updates on what happened at Monster Bash.

The web site has an Additional Options feature here on posts to be notified when there is a reply to this topic.

It's just a tidge frustrating to make a special trip to pop in here hoping for news about the Monster Bash, and find a discussion about something unrelated to the subject.

I keep hoping for photos... and so far, we have one of Max's prosthetic body wearing the wrong shirt.  (I think the General may have docked your leave time for being out of uniform, Max.)

Elizabeth I would love to put up a few photos from the Bash but I tried & couldn't figure out how to add them. Didn't know what to put in between the img codes!

typhooforme the Movie Monster Museum was in a room at this years Monster Bash as opposed to a table & I believe that they were selling stuff as well as just displaying again. Some of the things I remember seeing were some artwork by Vincent Price & a really cool painting of Vincent Price done by Maila Nurmi! I think that the rest of the display was mostly pictures. I'm remembering some stuff from Ted V. Mickels (some props) but I could be wrong. We were beat at that point & on the way out of the convention so things aren't really clear.

Max and Elizabeth are right. Its not that there's anything wrong in discussing how much of a hell-hole Florida is, but rather where the discussion should be taking place. Occasionally straying off topic at a thread isn't a felony at UMA, but when it begins to infringe upon, or hijack, a topic's original subject matter, it therefore makes it difficult for members to exchange information relevant to the thread's intended subject matter.

No harm done. Just a reminder for everyone, including myself.  ;)

I'll be sharing photos later today. And one in particular with a fashion sense the General would approve of!

Whisper, I think you just need to have the photos somewhere on line, at a URL... so like a Photobucket page or something, that you can then link in here.

You then put the URL for that photo on the particular page in between the HTML image code.

(And I bet there is someone here who could explain that better than me!)

Holy smokes! I would have LOVED to have seen that!

Ms. Nurmi was a really gifted artist.  And how fun to think she did a painting of an actor who loved...paintings!
