Hi ladies, 'Tis ALMOST the Season!!!!!  Well....for the rest of the people anyhow..

Looking forward to adding in some ideas; sharing photos, learning what's happening with the Auxiliary Corps!

THIS YEAR, HALLOWEEN IS OURS!!!!

ServoCrow

I haven't even gotten through the thread and have seen some pretty spooktacular stuff!!  I haven't been to our Yankee Candle Store yet, but I can just "smell" those wonderful scents.....

And even the "brain" food is making me hungry..

...where's my knife?.....

Ahhh, my favorite ghouls! Been doing some lurking around at stores and have found some horrible treasures. Next month I'll be going back to Menards and getting some spooky items like a dancing ghost that wiggles and a haunted ship that moves and hosts all kinds of our favorite monster fiends. Looking forward to checking out Michaels and seeing the new Halloween 2 this weekend. Take Scare!!

When Halloween comes, do you ever feel like taking a "Wicked Ride"?  That's the name of this cool display I found at Hallmark recently.  It's by Jim Shore, of Heartwood Creek productions.

Cuz, that figure is BEAUTIFUL! I've seen the Heartwood Creek things before-- it's very unique and creative, and the paint jobs are well done-- quality pieces.  That is going to make a beautiful table display!!

We have a Casper the Friendly Ghost night light that we always put out.  And we have these two Fisher-Price characters that are like the tiny ones only they are really big.  When they are moved one says BOO, and the other says WOOOOO and then laughs.  I got them on clearance at Target many years ago.  I can't believe that they weren't all gone!

This made me laugh-- for folks like us, Halloween is 365 days of the year! ;-)

Welcome, ServoCrow! Wonderful to have you with us here!

Chatty, these sound really cute!

Over the last couple years, Target has been getting some really terrific Halloween stuff in.  I've nabbed all kinds of stuff that I use year-round for just general horror-theme fun.

In fact, my official Saturday night Svengoolie-watching popcorn bowl (black with a bat on it) came from Target.

Two years ago I got a very fun Frankenstein monster lamp.

I have a Target about a mile away from me, where I do most of my grocery shopping.  These days, every time I go in to the store I walk to the far back corner where the seasonal stuff is, hoping to see the Halloween goodies out... but so far it's still in the "Back to School" mode.

Last year they had some lovely table linens, and I snagged a set of skull napkin rings on the clearance.

If you want to see horror, see folks duking it out in those aisles during the 50% off sale. ;-)

Thank you Elizabeth for inviting me over to the girl party! Finally, a place to talk coupons, sales, recipes, kids, etc. without having the guys roll their eyes... ;D

Loving the posts so far. I have to stop drinking liquids while I read them..everyone is soo funny I usually end up spitting my drink out from laughing so hard. So, what ever happened with the sleep-over? I just saw very cute Nighmare before xmas pajamas on sale....lol.

Welcome, Marsha! Glad you found your way over to the barracks here!  :)

Also very glad to hear you had so much fun reading through our old posts.  And we will have to get that slumber party plan off the ground soon-- it's getting to be good weather for that sort of thing!

Any JOSS WHEDON fans here?

I've always enjoyed Joss Whedon's work because it's fresh and creative.

But, beyond just being clever and sharp, Whedon occupies a special place for a lot of women horror/sci-fi fans because he insists on creating strong, intelligent roles for women in his television programs and movies.

My favorite would be his television series FIREFLY.

Anyone else a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Dollhouse or other work?

Any favorite characters from any of Whedon's shows or movies?

I'm heading to a special charity fundraising event here in Chicago tonight, where they are screening his Dr. Horribles blog and the movie Serenity-- which is what got me thinking about this.

Whedon's favorite charity is EQUALITY NOW, an international human rights organization dedicated to action for the civil, political, economic and social rights of girls and women.  (They tackle issues like rape, domestic violence, reproductive rights, human trafficking, female genital mutilation, women's voting rights and political participation, and gender discrimination.)

Welcome, Marsha

Elizabeth, On Joss Whedon.... I'm a big fan of Buffy and Angel.  The episodes from Buffy  "Once more with Feeling" (I also love old musical movies, so this appealed to me very much!  )  and  "Hush" (I think this was the creepiest episode, with the "floating" men!) are my favorites.  And an episode that tickled my funny bone was "Beer Bad".  I believe we all can relate to Buffy character because she had to be strong, independent, and struggle with making tough decisions--but she was at the same time a woman with tenderness and emotions.  We've all been there.  We have to make choices in our families, parents, jobs, sometimes tough ones...balancing heart and "hard facts".
