The extended clip is not the issue. If the weapon itself was at fault, I can blame my ink pen for spelling errors.  The clip is a tool, like any other tool and can only do as much harm as the hand wielding it.

A tool that has no business in civilian life my friend...and the fact he was easily able to get one at Wal Mart is part of the issue.

I see this is a slippery slope on the board...I dig your pics of weapons and I am also a gun owner...we just have different views on the subject.

Last time I checked it was a bill of rights, not a bill of needs. That said, The extended clip has a legitimate use in target shooting, and if you start banning one item, it will culiminate in banning of them all, and the right to self-defense doesn't come from the law, it comes from nature and god.

But We're venturing entirely too close to politics right now.

I think any effort to "fix" the situation, including changing laws regarding the size of clips, will do nothing to prevent this from happening in the future.  If changing the law won't fix the situation, don't change the law.  The shooter was angry about the way Rep. Gifford's answered his question in 2007, and he planned her death for revenge against that perceived insult (To be honest, Loughner's question was stupid).  Do we forbid public servants from meeting with their constituents, to prevent the rare crazy person from seeking revenge over a perceived insult, from perhaps years earlier?  Mental illness does indeed need to be addressed, and I think we've come along way from the situation shown in the Karloff movie "Bedlam".  We also need to rethink what happened in the 1960's, where some people were unfairly locked up on just the word of somebody who knew them.  Unfortunately, in the 1960's and 1970's we went to the other extreme, where some people who needed to be locked up for the sake of everyone, were released in consideration of their "civil rights".  That some Government bean counters were more then happy to have some folks released to save costs, doesn't change the fact that Civil Rights groups did not have a problem with the rellease of patients who should have never left the institution.  But as we saw after 911, with the ridiculous personal invasive searches that have yet to stop a single act of terror, we should not change all our lives as a reaction to the few Malcontents out there who hate the world.  Why let the Loughner's win?

Exactly. We cannot become more free by becoming less free, and that includes the ridiculous body searches at airports, and the potential disbarment of certain weapons and accessories. Any law that is made in reaction to a single event is a bad idea.

Lester, this story was so heartbreaking. I cannot believe how cruel human beings can be sometimes. Those poor creatures will be on my mind for a long time.  I also hope that the subhuman that did this to these precious animals, gets punished to the fullest. Sometimes it's hard being a grown up and having to face these sickening stories of evil. We have to teach young people to respect and revere these helpless creatures and maybe they will grow up and do better. I'm sorry to hear about this Lester.

What should affect us were those who acted to take Loughner down before he harmed others, and the Judge who sacificed his own life to save anothers.  They are the ones who show us the best in humanity.

Did anybody catch PBS Nova about the Mission to Mars the other night.  I learned quite a lot from that show.  They are testing a new type of rocket engine called the VASIMIR.  It basically uses superheated, like that of a small sun, atom ions from an inert gas like Argon to provide thrust.  It will allow for a 39 day trip instead of 6-months if they used our current rocket technology.  Here is a wiki article about the engine:

The other thing I found interesting was that one of the Mars rovers has been operational since January of 2004! Programming and controlling these things is no easy task.  They don't have GPS on Mars.  The other rover lost communication last year and may be able to recharge and come back online considering its last known position.  Watch the show if you get a chance.

I think this s the evil of the animal abuser. On here, we often speak of monsters. This guy is true evil. There's a hot place in hell for him.

This is not 'Brand New'..... but it's so fantastic that I decided to post it after seeing a mug shot of the perp.

A 40-year-old man who tricked caregivers into changing his diapers by pretending he had the emotional maturity of a 5-year-old apologized to a victim in court Monday before pleading guilty to charges of organized fraud. Authorities said Sean Kelly of Port St. John, Florida, told caregivers he was incontinent and hired two women to change his diapers in 2008 and 2009 but did not pay them the amount he promised.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police have arrested a woman who, officials said, has been stalking a priest.

Father Edward Konopka, 93, of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Coral Springs, said he has been the victim of a stalker, 70-year-old Dorothy Jones Scalise.

Father Konopka said, Scalise is known to pester several other Catholic priests around the area and she frequently gets tossed out of Catholic churches. "She would go to the organ and take over the organ, or she would sit in the second or fourth pew and make monkey faces," Konopka said.

The retired priest said he fears the 70-year-old woman. "She's getting ready for something to end this thing," Konopka said. "She's been in every parish on University and kicked out of the parish. They carry her out like a sack of potatoes. Between us, she's out to do something, this is the end."Konopka added that he would have to avoid Scalise, as he exited his apartment in the mornings. "[She] would sit on that second or third step with a pot of coffee and Dunkin Donuts waiting for me to come out to her. Three to four times a week, and sit on those yellow stones over there and just taunt me."

Neighbors said they have seen the woman in the area acting erratic. "She used to come here with a wig, and she used to scream and carry on,"
Sandra Jarvis said.

Bond court Judge John Hurley ordered a psychological evaluation of Scalise. "You are not allowed to come within 500 feet of St. Elizabeth or Father Konopka, do you understand that?"

The 70-year-old woman responded, "Your honor, the pleasure is all mine."

Scalise was released to home confinement Friday after she was charged with misdemeanor stalking.
